What did you do with your 4runner today?

How much of a pain was it to get the stock cam gussets off? Did you drill the welds or chisel/grind them off?
I'd also be interested in hearing the level of difficulty/skill required

Not to steer this in the other direction, but I saw Marlin Crawler had cam and LCA frame gussets as well. I started looking into cam gussets when you mentioned them on another post, so you may have already seen these. Removing the stock gussets and getting the TC ones back in place seemed scary for me, so these seem like a good compromise between gusseting the tabs and not relying on y=mx+b fab to get all the mounting stuff lined up. They wrap around the original tabs and theres some extra pieces to brace the area. Anyone have thoughts on these?

Seem like a good option as well, plus some skids for rocks built in. I'm gonna do the TC since I want to run the cam delete kit and I don't know if the MC ones would work with it.

True, the wrap around pieces might not play nice with the taco tabs, didn't think about that.

Deleted the XREAS and put in some 5100s with FJ coils in the front to help level the stance a bit. IMG_3766.jpg

Did an ATF fluid swap on my 2007 V8 using the transmission cooler today, and swapped out the Idlers on my 2005 V6 last weekend using new Toyota Idlers. I rebuilt the old pulleys using new Koyo bearings and will save them for later.

My brother has both the MC alignment gusset/skid plate and Taco Tabs. Just needed to grind the Marlin gussets a little. It's possible to make it fit.

I figured, just didn't know the extent. Share a pic if you get a chance?

Phone camera doesn't want to cooperate but this is the best I got. Was kind of a pain in the butt to get everything to line up but it works.

Platform

Buddy of mine and I built a barebones sleeping platform for the 4runner this morning. Took around an hour and some change because I had to make a trip to the store for extra screws and spray adhesive. 3 parts total, (2 lower structures and 1 top piece) I originally had planned for the top piece to come together by hinges that way removal would be easier but I figured this will do just fine for an upcoming weekend camping trip with my wife. All that’s left is to sand and stain the lower members.

new LCAs are in, and I just picked these up for a song and a dance today. I'm beyond stoked!

now I can get rid of the spacer lift and make the much needed room for my 35s.

I drilled the stock spot welds off and then used a hammer and a flat head to finish the job. It was really easy.

To be completely honest I would skip the TC cam gusset mod if you aren’t doing it yourself.

I spent close to 8 hours getting everything set up in the garage to complete the job.

What I did was:
Remove the cam bolts and LCA
clean the area
Drill out spot welds and chisel the gussets out
Bring the area to bare metal
Prep weld the gussets
align the tabs (which was pretty easy for me)
Tack in gussets
Finish weld gussets
Install LCA

Assuming a shop charges $100 an hour that is gonna be a $800 job just in labor.

Granted I did this on the floor of a garage and I had to TIG weld everything. I’m sure you could cut off an hour or two just from mig welding alone.

Finished the evaporator core replacement and got it recharged free by my brother at a dealer. Nice and cold now. Now those super hot days will be more bearable.

Day two of maintenance-O-rama. Finished up the install of the new Whiteline lca bushings and lower ball joints with a quick drive around the block and a re-torque of everything. Rotated the tires. Checked all the fluids in the diffs and t-case. Greased both drive shafts.. Re-tapped the skid plate bolt holes and replaced the hardware. Re-enforced the mid skid where it was hit hard right under the front diff last time out wheeling. This repair will have to do because new skid plates aren’t in the budget right now. Alignment scheduled for tomorrow morning. Enjoy what’s left of you weekend folks.

Currently..... Been meaning to swap the coolant forever. Called the dealership for price on SLLC (pink) they said $20 a jug. Cheapest I found an Amazon was $50 for two. So I ran over and the guy actually rung it up at $16.04 a jug, less than $40 for two jugs. Ordered the radiator hoses from Amazon. Coolant is still light pink coming out. This car had an easy life before me lol.

Second round of a rack replacement. Had a difficult time with a specific company that people recommended on this forum. The owner is really hard to get a hold of and I’ve been stranded without power steering for around three weeks now. I recommend all to steer clear (pun intended).
