Can't body lift a unibody, which the X5 is. And reliable, thats a good one :lol:
Congrats to [MENTION=95421]Troymclure[/MENTION] for calling BS in record time. I was wondering how long I could troll.
The X5 is indeed the soccer-mom mobile / mall-crawler. I've never even heard of a lift for it - only lowering stories. It will be my wife's DD to replace the 328xi that we lease-returned in September. It will also be the take-family vehicle. I have no illusions about reliability - which is why I have the 6yr/100K mile warranty.
It's a 2013 X5 35i M-sport, which means it has the sport suspension and looky-bits, but doesn't go any faster than a standard X5. It corners very well however. I picked it up from NY in January and drove it back to CO. It's 2 years old but still only has 16K miles even after the drive. I think I saw a couple of T4R.org people on the drive, but I can't be sure.
The bottom line (and purpose for entry to the thread) is that I get my 4Runner back for winter/ski/camping duty. Wooo!

Haha fair enough. I love the looks and functionality of BMW's, just not the huge bill for repairs every month.
And this might change your mind about the soccer mom mobile. Granted this thing probaly never sees offroad use, but looks pretty badass.

No joke. I've got a 2003 E46 sitting in the driveway. I've owned it for about 18 months, and spent about $4k in parts, and I've done all the work myself. I was a mechanic in college, and this thing is still a ***** to keep fed. Working on a body-on-frame Toyota is like a breath of fresh air.

I was actually going to say, we have one x5 around here with a small lift on it. Some chick flogs the crap out of it while she drives it. It will probably be blown in another year or so

How is the paint matching up?
Project in the works. I designed this around the 2004 SR5 that is being handed down to my son. This should transfer over to the Limited with no problems.
The rack is made from Unistrut and angle iron which should be beefy enough for my use and allows me to customize tie downs in an unlimited way.

Sliding nut assembly. This will slide the length of the unistrut allowing a 3/8 tie down to be added anywhere.
I will post more pics once I have this on the Runner. I also need to add a fairing due to wind noise. Since the unistrut has such a large opening you can imagine the amount of wind noise generated.
This is also an early "beta" design, I'm expecting several changes once I get this mounted and try it out a few trips.
Edit: I forgot to add that the rack will bolt between the stock roof rack rails once the cross bars are removed. Low profile and virtually unseen when not being used.

pretty decent. it would match had my paint not be as faded. Its a shade darker but im hoping the clear brightens it up a bit. More than likely wont be that noticeable except to people like us.

Noticed a funky exhaust noise or vibration or something today (coming from the pass. side rear).
Discovered that my tailpipe was quite loose and rotating at the muffler end. It doesn't look rusted or rotted at all just like it came loose. It's actually still pretty quiet, only making a pronounced sound under very specific, light, rpms.
I'm guessing I knocked the tailpipe on a snowbank or something (I've been driving on snow covered roads, and over plenty of driveway-capping snowbanks for the last week.)
I've got a great custom exhaust shop near me (Morningside Garage, Claremont, NH) so I'll give them a call tomorrow and make an appointment to have it fixed up. Might have them cut and turn my tailpipe at the same for a side exit instead of sending fumes out back.

I had time to mount the rack this afternoon and thought I would share.
After a test drive I found that a fairing is going to be a must. One of the bars has a resonant frequency around 55MPH that will drive me crazy. I'm hoping the fairing will take care of that. Also, there are inserts for the unistrut bars that will fill in the open areas which would get rid of the wind noise.

Thanks. I had an $1800 convertible repair on my M3 (out of warranty) and a $1500 evaporator repair on my 135i (in warranty). I know these things can get expensive.
The huge relief is that now we have 2 vehicles that are worthy of driving in snow, and 3 overall. Thus, if I'm working on one vehicle I don't have to worry about finishing before I have to pick up the microchild from school or run errands. The goal is to mod my 135i during the winter and mod the 4Runner during the summer. The list of things I have to do on both is extensive.
