What did you do with your 4runner today?

After 3 days of struggles, I finally got the rear view camera installed! After trying to figure out why the RCA wouldn't work, turns out that the actual port on the head unit was faulty! Crutchfield is express shipping me a new one (Awesome customer service, that site) so hopefully it'll be a quick swap!

I realized that I drove my daily driver 750 miles over the last 3 months. I drove the 4Runner (my foul-weather car) 1500 miles over the same timeframe. I really need to ditch the stock head unit & upgrade. Maybe I will call Crutchfield.

I highly recommend Pioneer 5500BHS Its the upgraded newer version of mine, but my dad just installed it in his truck and i love it.

Thanks. I've actually been eyeballing the new version: the 5600BHS. [MENTION=93434]gshadow325[/MENTION] recommended the Appradio 3, but I think the 5600BHS will suit me just fine. The "boss" will probably give me approval.

I wish I could find an installer in Denver that wasn't a complete criminal. Against my better judgment, I went to Car Toys and got charged $400 to do almost nothing on my 135i and they did a pretty amateurish job. I guess really I only need help installing the backup camera.

How long are we talking? And then the additional wait for them to get the bugs out? I don't really need video output to rear-seats, I only need bluetooth audio, podcast playback, backup camera and nav from either iPhone or Android.

Were you using extended tip lug nuts to hold the spidertrax to the hub?

I ask as AllPro mentioned that to me and required the use of longer nuts on the front to insure plenty of holding power/support on the hub studs.

I used the nuts that spidertrax provided along with loc-tite.

Holy crap man, scary! Glad the damage was minimal (hope so anyway). A guy posted about this happening a while ago. When he posted pics, it appeared that he installed that first set of lug nuts backwards. Could be your culprit.

thanks, and yeah the damage wasn't that bad, just tore a fender off. Might upgrade to a set of glassworks later just cause its cheaper than buying 1 fender.

Isn't that total BS that glassworks are cheaper than one OEM fender? Pretty cool mod that not a lot of guys do.

It should go conical nut facing like the following where the nut is ">" so that the > points in to help center the nut. I think there may be a diagram on spidies' website.

They're awesome! 2nd head unit I've bought from them and they give you everything you need! It's done in a way that you don't need to splice any of the stock wires, you just plug and play with theirs (minor wire twisting required). I love my AVH-X5500BHS

It will make easier to articulate when you're off road...but don't just rely on your spidey senses, spend the 10 minutes to disconnect the end links and just take it for a quick spin to see if you like how it handles for daily driving. Some can tolerate it, some can't, you be the judge

It's all good, just needed a new rotor and studs. I didn't post much on here to avoid looking like the new blk-4runner. Still not sure how the tire fell off. Its weird because the spacer came off with it. it ripped off one of the studs on the hub and bent all the other ones. never seen anything like it.

when the spacer comes off with the tire, usually that is the lugs not bolted to the hub correctly. Our torqued down properly. I run adapters on my summer car for the last 3 years and 40k with no issues.

it's hard to install lugs backwards especially if the lugs have a tapered edge to them where the socket will not go over the bolt head.

99% of the head units out there require you to go in and turn on camera and turn on polarity in the setting for the camera. In the last 10 years I can say I never saw this issue pop up before on any unit that came thru my store. Not saying it's impossible. What unit was this anyways? Some Audiovox units are single sensing that's why I say 99% of the units.

tbh i can't tell the difference at all. if anything I noticed more brake dive, but that could be my mind playing tricks on me. I'm gonna pull the rear too

That was a cool video! The Dixie horn was just... Very Texas.

The Prius thing was funny, and I loved how you showcased the 4Runner's ability to both drive down a cement slope, and back up the other side of the cement slope! :rofl:

Some Audiovox units are single sensing that's why I say 99% of the units.

And here I had to triple check all of my wires, when really, I had it right the whole time Just don't know where to ground in the back where the jack goes. For the time being it's electrical taped to the frame piece which holds the tire rod.

still doesnt sound like it is a bad radio. the radio has a reverse turn on.

did the radio flip to back up camera mode?

just taping it to the frame piece that holds the tire rod handle is not a good ground. it is still covered with paint.
