What did you do with your 4runner today?

Wire brush and cordless drill to the rust on the lower radiator cross member and front suspension member. POR15 degreaser and metal prep followed.

POR15 paint goes on today.

Knowing that rust was down there has been eating at me so getting my thumb out feels good. Will be able to mount the RCI skid plate once I am done.

Radiator/AC heat exchanger are up over an inch away. Had the truck up on Rhino ramps and just sat down in front.

Used a combination of 2" wire wheel and a small conical brush in the cordless drill. Mostly two hands on the drill to control it and prevent jumping. Had the wheel spinning sideways so any jump was L-R and not up toward the radiator.

Rust was primarily on the front of the cross piece, from the salt air, so the work was right in front of me. Did not appear to be any rust on top or back of the part.

I went in with the intention of buying a smaller cheap one. Ended up finding a bigger, more powerful one on sale. Unfortunately I did not realize the bigger one did not come with the small nozzle attachment. I guess I'll have to buy one separately now.

The truck is somewhat newer to us ,and its primary use was supposed to be for wifey and I to cart the family around,but to give you some insight where things are really going . I ordered my toytec/eibach #620 front spring set up and some superflex rcc2.0 for the rear .hahaha ,I just cant help myself .

My glove box latch broke. Force does not help it close lol.

Good thing part is just $14.25 from the dealer. Best part was it was in stock.

Changed the oil. Shell Rotella T6 & Mobil 1 filter. What is everyone else using?

Did nothing. But it looked good sitting there.

Applied POR15 to the front cross member and center of the suspension after scrubbing off the rust and treating the surface. The POR15 paint is nasty black stuff, gets everywhere, particularly if you are lying on your side trying to paint.

Let it dry overnight and bolted up the RCI aluminum skid plate.

Forgot to take a shot of the rust on the cross member, but here it and the suspension is in glossy black. Had not removed the rear plate at this time.:

And the RCI installed. Used stainless socket heads from Lowes rather than the steel button heads from RCI as I hate corrosion.:

The front stock skid plate where the rust had eaten thought:

Now with the skid plate, the factory jacking point is gone under the front. The RCI does just about touch the front suspension, which is where the stock plate would contact I think. Should be good to go from the looks of things.
