The new halos shut off if they get too hot. It's pretty cool.

I'm in the middle of a major kitchen renovation. I needed a decent amount of wood framing and drywall this weekend during construction. I was determined to transport it all in my runner with 2 requirements: 1. I didn't want to cut the drywall and 2. I didnt want it on the roof. I have a hitch tailgate extender that I used to use to help load a kayak onto my roof. When I sold the kayak I kept the hitch extender but cut it to a height so that it was slightly higher than the bottom of the rear window so I could transport long heavier stuff hanging out the back window without resting on the windowsill itself. I folded my seats down, used that tailgate extender and loaded all of my 2x4s first, then drywall on top. Tailgate extender has U hooks on it that I used to ratchet strap everything down. I had to leave the tailgate open, but it wasnt a long trip. It was extremely secure and nowhere near the weight rating of the tailgate extender. All in all, a pretty simple way to transport drywall, plywood etc, in a safe manner without cutting it down or strapping it to the roof, or causing any damage to the truck. Thought I'd share...
Very cool idea, I haven't moved anything that wide with my truck, but most long things I've had to hang out of the back window, like a bed frame and the handles of a wheelbarrow.

Cool feature, but doesn't remedy the problem. I wonder if there is some ceramic/dinosaur flesh/whatever material that can be mounted onto the projector that would serve as a mounting plate (whatever) for the halos. The material would "absorb' the heat thus projecting them.
Maybe painting them black doesn't help either as black absorbs heats. (??)

It pretty much sounds like Halos are a POS, even the expensive ones. Plenty of guys with Tundras that don't have projectors (just regular old stock headlights) that are losing sections of their Halos, multiple times.
Who cares if you get new ones for free....you still have to bake & open your headlights to replace them.
These issues definitely scraped any ideas of halos for me...

I'm not big on Halos for myself, but they do look really good on certain rigs. Alex and Zak's rigs are incredibly awesome b/c they are heavily modded. I agree, I would hate to have to open them up AGAIN only to go through with this issue again later down the road. HATE IT. Worse than mayonnaise.
They do turn back on...

There's gotta be a cure. BigNuge says it's not the heat of the projector, what else could it be? All I know is that LEDs don't like heat..........

The picture I promised. FYI to anyone looking at the 5000 series, this was like $20 more than the 5600 but has dual camera input (going to do a reverse and then 2 rock cameras that I can switch between and has the newer version of Bluetooth that is supposed to sound better. I almost went with the 5600 until I started talking to a guy at best buy and we just started looking up specs and stumble across this one. I believe this is the newest model.

Doug Thorley FJ Cruiser y-pipe. Getting pipes bent and welded in this week so that it looks better. I had to hack it up a bit to clear the t-case, so for now I just mocked it up with flex piping and clamps. It looks like shit but it'll be good when it's done.
