What did you do with your 4runner today?

Just got my MINI-VCI J2534 cable from Ebay for $20 yesterday. Loaded the Techstream program and installed the drivers last night on my Win Pro 7 64bit and had some fun today....

(I have the link to what I followed if anybody is interested),
...(MY $.02) :hiding::rofl:
:clap2::clap2:
morphious, would you share the installation instructions either here or via PM? I just got my cable yesterday, and am anxious to install the drivers and play around.

Can anyone recommend a fuse to tap for my radar detector hardwire? It seems as if everyone thinks it's so trivial, they don't post details. Thanks! As the weather starts to turn, I'm going to be driving the 4Runner more & more.

The ACC fuse would be a good choice. It gets power when your accessories (such as radio, dash lights, etc) have power.

I'm assuming that you are planning on buying a fuse tap such as this one from Amazon. I'm not certain which size we have (small or mini?).

When you install the tap, pull the fuse, and use a multi-meter to determine which side of the socket has 12V+. Do this by putting the meter on DC voltage, placing one probe to a solid metal surface to act as a good ground, and touch the other probe to one of the metal connectors inside the socket.

When you install your tap, you want the WIRE on the tap, to be on the same side as the metal connect that DID NOT have +12V when you tested the empty socket with your meter. The reason for this, is that way a heavy load or a short will blow the fuse, thereby disconnecting the power to the wire.

One other option, is to check any empty fuse slots with your meter. Check it with the truck off, and with the key in the "on" position. If you find and empty socket that is off when the car is off, and on when the car is on, then you can put a fuse in that empty socket, attaching the Radar detector to the correct side of the fuse by stripping about and inch of sheathing off of the + side, and carefully wrapping the bare wire around the CORRECT side of the fuse blade.

Some may scoff that this isn't a professional install, but I've never had problems doing this type of home-made tap. :nerd:

I know this advice isn't100% specific, but I hope it helps. :)

P.S. Found an image with instruction on this Amazon Link.

Thanks for the info. I bought this, but I can't find it at the moment. I think the local auto places only have something like what you described. The cord itself (standard Escort Smart Cord), has something like a 3-amp tube fuse already inline on the power side. So would I have to cut that out in order to use this type of connector?

I got a questions for those of you that have changed turn signals brake and reverse lights to LED. I've done all mine and when I changed turn signals they set my blinkers to blinking 160 bps as if I have a bulb out hazard lights work like normal has this happened to anyone else? Sorry if there are 50 posts on this I'm using app on my phone and I don't like it hard to find anything !

Prepped for the PA winter road saltings
Applied a thin coat of fluid film to all the alignment bolts to prevent them from seizing with rust.

Greased the driveshaft (Twss...)
Greased the poly sway bar bushings
Greased the steering rack
Opened up the sunroof and cleaned the gasket & paint surface and applied some fresh lube to the tracks

Cycled the 4WD/center diff actuators

Contemplated buying a new drivers side seat leather bottom since the sidewall on ours is cracked... (previous owner was overweight, never treated seat and never used running board to get in and out)Anywho... Anyone install one of these? Bruce seems like a great guy that makes a quality product. Seems expensive compared to a full set of seat covers BUT the rest of our interior is perfect besides the driver bottom and I prefer to keep the OEM look.

Sent a request for quote to get the oem wheels remanufactured. The oem hyper silver wheels suck for corrosion resitance despite my best efforts...

Drove it to the grocery store to get some bbq sauce to make some slow cook ribs... nom nom nom :hungry:

Now browsing online for Land Cruisers...(which i have been pretty much every day since buying our 4Runner)

(especially since I have a local dealer willing to sell me a brand new at invoice)

I finished hardwiring my radar detector. I just used the top left (IGN) 10a fuse with the fuse tap that I finally found. I figured that was easier than the add-a-fuse since I didn't have a 3a ATM fuse, nor did I have time to bust out the voltmeter. I'm probably going to re-do it, to purdy it up a little and dremel out one of my switch blanks to mount the Mute button. Unfortunately, there's no fascia or plastic to hide the cord coming down from the headliner. That looks pretty ghetto.

It may not be the best idea to monkey with the electrics 20 minutes before heading out to the mountains, but I'm sure it will be fine.

Did get to post couple days ago redid the grille in plasti dip it had been taking a beating for over a year. Held up well just wanted to do all of it this time.

Did you have issue of your radar showing low voltage after driving awhile. I keep having that issue

You need to either get the LED's with a resister built in or I believe you can splice one into the wring as well but not 100% sure on that.

I used my truck to move our heavy ass work trailer, 11,800lbs. So normally when we have to tow the trailer we rent a HD 3/4 ton truck preferable diesel. I figured since I was just moving it in the parking lot and am lifted with stiffer springs I would give it a try. Luckily we have a load leveling anti-sway hitch to help a little. They trailer has a lot of tongue weight and it squatted a lot and after getting it off the ground and still had about an inch till I hit the bump stops. I put it in 4 low for the extra torque and I barely had to give it any gas to get it moving. Hope you enjoy the pictures!

The LC is the most over-engineered truck on the road.

& off road. I suppose until we acquire one, I can take comfort in knowing the 4Runner likely inhereted some trickle down engineering decisions from the flagship in some form or fashion...

Reality dictates the only thing a current 4Runner Trail can't do that a current LC200 can, is tow 8,000+ lbs plus and maybe carry a few more groceries (both have MTS, 5 speed crawl control, and KDSS and the 4R actually has better A/D angles out of the box). The LC now has the safety sense-P systems (which I'm guessing the 6th gen 4R limited trim package will also get as standard). Surprisingly when I did a recent comparison between the two the 4Runner is only a couple inches smaller by exterior dimensions. I need to get inside a new one of each to see what interiors feel like just for S&G...

If my wife and I weren't getting a airstream 25FB in the future, we wouldn't be considering a LC at all given the above, but we need something that can handle a tow of 7000+ lbs, so alas the LC is the next SUV for us.

I guess I'll have to make some time to pull the headlights out, and I might take this opportunity to paint the chrome a darker smoke color.

The V8 and transmission are identical.

So I went to the collision repair place to check out my Sport hood he helped me find... Only to discover it was a limited hood with a GLUE ON SCOOP!!!!:redbrick:

So the search continues....
