Those little red accents are just double sided taped on. Seemed cheesy to me but they are still on the ex's taco 2.5 years later.
After having my spare tire stolen 3 years ago (full size brand new BFG) and keeping its replacement in the trunk, I finally replaced the tire carrier and put the spare back under the car.
I'd like to see the idiot that tries to get through this. All coated in Fluid Film and wrapped around the frame rails.
Also did the following recently.
- Full M1 Synthetic Oil Change
- LED Interior
- Replaced HVAC LED's
Wouldn't be hard to snap that chain off with a bolt cutter hell the lock is self is the weakest part just use a bump key on it and it will open no problem

It's a pretty solid chain nearly 1/2" in diameter. The reality is its a theft deterrent. If someone really wants my spare BFG and black steel wheel theyll get it.
Unless you can think of something better or more substantial? I have covered garage parking in my apartment so this is for the seldom times I'm parked outside of that.
Wouldnt it be easier/safer to just keep it inside, until needed? Thats what I do...btw how hood is your apt that people are stealing spares out from under you, literally

Wanted to pop this up again. I was going just by what my wife said before but I did this for myself after letting it sit a few days.
Started fine, ran smooth. Let the revs settle down, no issues, drove away. 200 yards down my street the CEL started blinking and the other lights popped on. Gently turned around and pulled back into my driveway.
Oil good, coolant good, no issues that I can see. Where should I start? Maybe it's denial but I' thinking since it started fine it's not the head gasket. Guess I should try to find a code reader and see what it says... that seems the logical first step.
Could it be something as simple as an O2 sensor causing it? Truck has been rock solid since I bought it in April of 2014, almost 20k miles ago. This popped up very suddenly.

It wasn't stolen in my building parking garage. I parked overnight on the street a few years ago.
Ill give you that one! I have a garage so i don't worry about it getting stolen. But i have seen how fast the can get tires and its kind of crazy how fast they do it.

The plastic around the runner comes like that from the factory on most 2003 models but the limited I believe. It was changed in 2004+ models.

Damn -- I have an '04 and I would much rather have that 2-tone look. Anyone DIY it?
It's just the plastic cladding. You could paint the cladding or plastidip the cladding or even buy brand new plastic cladding that isnt painted and just replace your original panels. they just held on with plastic clips.

Yep...just cladding. Heck, if you had a silver 4Runner I'd trade you my cladding for your plastics!
They were actually offering a $1000 discount on the "appearance package" on 2003's when I bought my 2004. I remember being so proud about printing that out and showing the dealer. I then felt stupid when I realized it applied to the 2003 model.
