What did you do with your 4runner today?

Trying to track down a vibration. It feels like maybe the rear and my abs light is on so I'm thinking wheel bearing. Anyone know how to tell if they are bad? I jacked it up and tried wiggling things around, no answers. Worst vibration is 45-50, but it's all the time. I can feel it in the seat and in the steering wheel. Rear dif? Trans? I wish something would just break so I could fix it!

Sounds like tires to me, does the vibration go away the faster you go? Makes me say tires because you feel it all around, you should only feel the front in the steering wheel.

Unless I bent a rim I doubt it. I have tire beads instead of wheel weights and they do a good job of balancing. It almost feels like a grinding that resonates through the truck.

That makes me wonder if my SR5 is wired for the running board lights? If it is I'll have to grab something like that and throw them on.

I bet there's a good chance. The wiring should end near the back of the front door along side the frame. It'll have a little white plug on the end.

It's not loud enough to hear over my exhaust and tires. I can feel it and barely hear it. Makes it so much harder to diagnose!

I might have to. I've been giving it a week or so to see if I can figure it out. I would say it is like the rumble strip transmission issue but it is at all speeds not one specific speed like those guys seem to be getting. What a pita!

Replaced a headlight, super exciting! Love those little storage boxes over the rear wheel weels. I keep my extra light bulbls in there for when they go out to ensure I most likely have one on hand.

Off topic but won't let me post anywhere else due to being new user

I just bought a 2003 sport edition last week. This weekend I drove from south Texas to Austin and about half way I stopped, put gas then when I started it up it got hot within seconds... But stayed normal all during driving so I was confused. Ive got a new radiator and a new water pump already and just replaced the thermostat today. Now all of a sudden when it first starts the truck shakes really bad, blows grey smoke and sounds like shit for about a minute or so then idles back to normal and sounds normal again without the smoke. All I've owned is toyotas and I've never encountered this problem before so I'm not quite sure if you guys have had this same sorta thing happen or if I should suck up my pride and just take it to Toyota...? Any advice?

Also, the Trac and VSC lights both stay on constantly. Not sure what that's all about.

Is the check engine light on too? Sounds like there may be DTCs you can pull with a code scanner to help identify what the issue is. If you don't have a code scanner and don't want to spend money on one, find an Auto Zone and they will pull the codes for free. Once you get the codes, you can google them or search the forum to find out what the code(s) say is malfunctioning.
