What did you do with your 4runner today?

Very common in the Subaru forums. Makes for a cleaner and quicker oil changes in the future.

Got my analysis back from Blackstone. Wasn't a lot of miles but it sat quite a bit since march. Figured I'd get a baseline sample since the engine is getting up there in miles. First time sending any oil in to be analyzed. I'll be doing it on my WRX next.

This is awesome. So the analyze an oil sample to provide more in-depth data on the health of your engine. So is this something that is just informative so that you know what to expect?

It says to check back in 2000 miles. how much does this cost, is it per sample?

You do it whenever you want. I'd like to know where the metal levels are at next oil change. I won't be sending in another sample until 5k at my usual OCI. They cost about $20+ a sample and you could pay a little more for a TBN which could help you determine an appropriate OCI based on the actual breakdown of the oil. Depending on the oil and engine I could eventually determine an OCI north of 6k... perhaps even 7.5k or so if the TBN is still high enough.

I did it just to see how it's doing at 129k, I'm going to do it once more in 5k and probably spread it out to 20k after that.

On my new WRX I'll be doing it to determine my OCI on which I'm concerned about fuel dilution considering the nature of Direct Injection Turbo on the FA20DIT. It's only at 5k right now ... 3k since changing out the factory fill with M1 ESP. Also good to know how the engine oil is doing prior to doing any of the engine mods I have planned. Some of which might help with the fuel dilution issue these engines are known for.

Fun stuff.

I wouldn't want my 5w/30 Viscosity to be that degraded over 3.7k. I recently decided to switch oils because I'm losing confidence in standard M1 oil. Your iron and aluminum levels look similar to mine although I suspect my iron was higher because of 3 months of sitting inoperable. I've been doing 5-6k OCIs on my 1GRFE since I bought her at 95k with M1 (recently switched to Castrol Edge).

Other than that looks normal... I think the biggest benefit to doing an analysis is if there is something more serious going on with the engine there would be red flags. Gives us a chance to reduce the repair bill ultimately saving us money by getting it fixed before the symptoms manifest.

I been doing 3,000 miles when i got it with 149,000 with mobil1 and i think the engine clean up a bit. Yeap that why i decided to do the oil analysis i plan on keeping this runner for awhile. I think the oil measured 5w20 because thats what i was using before i switch to 5w30. And i had a couple bottles left and mixed it. Maybe i had some 5w20 oil left over in the engine.

My Trac/VSC lights came on (yet again :redbrick:) a few weeks ago, and I figured it was the result of my old (2 times repaired) front-driver's side ABS cable finally giving out. Went ahead and ordered a new OEM cable a few days ago because I was tired of performing surgery on my old one. Got it all installed today only to find out that my lights still wouldn't go away. Of course, I was a little frustrated at my failed assumptions so I took a break for a bit. A few hours later, I realized that my truck was acting up very similarly to other trucks that simply needed a Zero Point Calibration reset.

Then it hit me....

These lights came on right about the same time I had my cam timing fiasco, when I had at least three different Advance Auto employees reading codes from my OBDII port on the same day. At some point, one of the scanners must've erased my calibration data when trying to connect. I went ahead and performed the calibration with 2 paper clips and the lights never came back on. Moral of the story: I should have looked into the problem a bit more before throwing money at it. However, my old cable was pretty trashed so I'm not mad at all about replacing it.

This is probably gonna be an extremely stupid question, but screw it. :zoom:

I just replaced my passenger side O2 sensor (P0051) and the CEL/TRAC/etc was still on after I started it. Do they go away automatically, or should I clear the code and see if it comes back? Thanks!

There are no stupid questions here. So 100% of the people here have exactly half the answers. We all learn from each other. Sometime were lean too much and spend a lot of money doing dumb shit to our rides that we never really need. But whatever.

To answer your question. I think so.

Meaning. I think you indeed have to clear the CEL and it will not go away on its own. If you don't have a fancy thingy to do that, pull the negative battery terminal connection. You will have to reset your stations, but at least the light will be out.

No joke, did the same thing this weekend, and also pulled off my running boards and did under carriage protection(Fluid Film) while I was under there. For a midwest vehicle my rust is actually pretty minimal(knock on wood)

Question. Have been doing Mobil 1 since I have owned it, 4 years and almost 45k miles. Wondering your reasoning for switching to Castrol Edge?

Reinstalled my skids after some repainting and cleaning and gearing up for this weekend at Rausch!

If anyone is interested, this weekend is the Northeast Toyota Crawlers 14th Annual Toyota Takeover at Rausch, but anyone is allowed to go. No signups or anything. I know a big group from Tacomaworld is going. I am heading up with a few friends on Friday and hammock camping all weekend (barring weather). Anyone who is interested should definitely go, and if anyone wants to caravan from Western CT to Rausch, hit me up!

Makes me wish I was still in CT!

Hope the weather holds for y'all.

I've thought about doing fluid film to mine, is it hard to apply? I haven't looked into it much I just know i like the idea of it haha
