What did you do with your 4runner today?

Well, I've never been a bug fan of mud but after yesterday I can definitely say that I am an even lesser fan of it. Fighting our way up a nice little trail called Captain Crunch that can be difficult when it's dry, but was way worse thanks to heavy rains the day before. Made it through the first section, which is the harder section, without any real issues although one guy blew a CV and had to bail before the next section. Got into the second section and was doing pretty well until I turned a corner and into a sloppy muddy mess. There was a small tree that broken off and the stump and roots were sticking out the side of the hill. Thanks to the mud and that small tree I came home with this-

Not too thrilled about it, but it was a great day on the trail otherwise. This looks bad but there was no more damage done-

hit imogene pass from ouray this weekend. got a little sketchy as we were approaching the top since so many people were coming down and some didnt seem too experienced in ettiquite.
i learned a) its best not to hit popular trails on holiday weekends and b) if you ignore point a, hit the trail opposite of the route that the popular 4wd trail book recommends, which we did thankfully.
overall, it was an awesome trail that pushed my limits and reminded of how badass and capable a 4runner is in a world full of jeeps

Do you have a spare tire on the truck? Those tires look awesome but does the 285/70r17 fit in the spare tire location under the car? I have 265/70r17 and would like to go up to that tire size but also like to have a spare with me and don't want to have to mount it on the roof.

nope. i tried fitting it just before the weekend and its off by 1 3/4". im going to try to deflate the tire a little and see if i can squeeze it in. might have to go with a rear bumper or mount it to the roof.
below is a pic of where the edge of the tire hit the cross bar on the frame not allowing it to fit.

Oh, I've been thinking about more armor. For a long time. Haha. However, after sinking all the money into gears and lockers and all the little things I did during that project this summer, more armor is not currently in the near foreseeable future. Unless insurance will cover this since I was on a numbered forest service trail
I wish I had gotten more pictures of the trail. Not sure you'll see many 4th gens on it. At least half the guys that were with us were surprised that I was getting through there. The other half are club members and know I'll push it.

cb! Good eyes. Mine is the aluminzed steel. Maybe yours is the stainless steel? Tip of mine has "Gibson" on it as well, but yours is slashed and mine is clearly rolled. Hmmmm.

related note I love the sound, just loud enough and great rumble @ 2-3 k rpm.

It's louder than I anticipated. Might quiet down over time. But I like the sound! With the CAI too I feel a pull right around 4K rpm that is slight but definitely wasn't there when stock. Just feels like when you floor it, it's trying harder to make you happy.
Mine is cut on angle as well, but yea looks like our tips are different parts. Strange.

Had my timing belt service done at ~87000 miles on my 08 SR5 V8 including water pump, radiator hoses, serpentine belt, tensioners, and I also had the PCV valve and thermostat replaced while they were there. Total labor was just over 4 hours, and total cost with tax for all the above came out to $997 which I think is pretty reasonable. I had it done at Heritage Toyota in South Burlington Vermont. They were pretty easy to deal with for a dealership service department if anyone else is in the Northeast. I'm happy to write down part numbers of what I had replaced if anyone is interested.
