Installed some led headlights and fog lights as well as some flush mount led pods in the rear bumper.

I got some pods almost exactly like that to put on the lower rear bumper but the tow hitch support is in the way of mounting them. I have an 03 and we got reflectors where you put then. So I don't know what to do with them now

I thought about doing this exact same mod in the same spot on mine with your rear lights. How'd you run your wires? And can you post up a pic during the daylight of the rear lights with them off. Just want to see how they look.

For the wiring I tapped in to the yellow wire (reverse lights) on the 7pin trailer connector.
That's the best spot on the bumper I found to put them in. There's nothing behind that part of the bumper.

Headlights were looking pretty bad. Restored with wet/dry sanding and Spar Urethane method. Lasted well over 18 months last time.

Upgraded my low beams to HIR2 bulbs. Much whiter and brighter. Didn't change the factory cut off at all, so no glare issues.

I went with the VOSLA +30 bulbs. They are supposed to be 30% brighter than other HIR2 bulbs. Cheapest place I could find them was on ebay under the GM part number 23342527. It doesn't say in the description, but this OEM GM bulb is actually the VOSLA +30, verified by looking at the bottom of the bulb.

Next up will be the high beams.

The kid in the youtube link is a goober, so no need to pay close attention to him.

I used 800, 1000, and 2000 grits to wet sand mine. Clean covers with isopropyl alcohol after the final round of sanding. Mix 2 oz Helmsman Spar Urethane Clear Gloss (oil based) with 1 oz mineral spirits to thin it out a little. Apply evenly with small foam brush. Let dry. Optional, wax and buff out the next day for added layer of protection.

Detailed (got a bunch of pinstripes out from trails), restored the headlights, Rain X on all the windows. Tomorrow new tires, going from 265/65/18 Hankook Dynapro ATM P-rated to 275/70/18 Falken Wildpeak A/T3W's LT-rated. My 4Runner is getting spoiled this week lol

Went out to the Pocono's in PA with my wife for our honeymoon this past weekend. Got married last weekend

Logged about 627 miles total, drove all over the Poconos in every back road I could find..including some that trails that I found.. Saw all kinds of weather.. snow rain ice fog and sunny 70 degrees

Averaged 16.8 MPG combined for the whole trip doing the math. Truck did excellent.. just about cracked 130k miles..

at one point ended up driving up to the Delaware river to get some nice shots..

It was this past week/weekend. Most of you know how much I like to keep my ride clean. I decided to try my luck at a car show this past weekend so I spent more time cleaning it than I ever have at one time. It ended up paying off Saturday, taking the Best Detailed Award in the show. Pretty proud moment. It was also my first time using mostly Shine Supply products......awesome stuff.

since I've been so sporadic on this forum, I'll just clump all my recent 'crossed off the check list' "To Do's"

it started off beautifully with new headlights, picked up some HID Xenon CCFL halo ring projector eyes glossy black in 6k white

The d**khead who had my 4Runner before me cut and spliced all of the factory wiring so figuring out how to wire these up was painful it took me longer than it should have

D**KHEAD!!!

So I ended up wiring them backwards my low beams trigger nothing and my high beams trigger my low beams! I don't have enough patience to correctly fix that, so high low beams it is

Cleaned up all the wiring and they look good im satisfied with it

You should see them shining down the road, pictures don't do justice, it looks like I have my light bar on 24/7 [emoji39]

All in all Twas a great investment, I recommend if anyone is boarding that boat

Oh, and giving the black pearl (her name, I came up with that so I own that title) a deep 2-day cleaning.

3 Ws-wash, wax, wheels + full interior. she loves it

More exciting things to come, I really should just start a build thread .__.

Do you have a link to exactly what you purchased? I was thinking of adding similar aftermarket headlights for a nicer look, but reviews for those cheap ~$200 headlights seemed to indicate that they were not as bright or useful as the stock ones, and I can't justify prioritizing aesthetics over usability. Do you think they are as good as or better than the stock lights?

These look like the ones I just put into my girlfriends WRX from Pro Tuning Lab. Lets just say I'm glad her car is the one that has these. I actually don't agree with [MENTION=130960]4thgenblake[/MENTION] (no offense to him) I just don't find these good at all. If you look at his picture, the cut off of the projectors are terrible. I went with the retroquik option from the retrofit source which was more money but I have a straight line on the top of my light and the light goes much further than the stock projector.

Mine look like that but I haven't taken a picture of them.
However, the price is nice with those lights vs mine. My retrofit cost around $600 where the Pro Tuning Lab are $265.
Again, no offense to 4thGenBlake, I just wasn't impressed by the quality and experience. When we received her headlights they had wired the high beam connector to the projector and the low beam to the high beam connector. So i had to switch those over which was a disapointment and then once I saw the cutoff I was shocked.

I'm not fond of those cheap projector headlights either. They remind me of rice mods. See them all the time on Honda Civics. There's no cut off for HIDs. They just glare and piss me off.

Okay, I originally had planned to buy some regular dark smoked Xenon headlights and retrofit source them to add switch back halos, but with 4 rings that I wanted and all the accessories I might need (quality stuff), I just decided to go wth PTL's because it was nearly half the price and still had what I wanted.

I'll save that fun project for my fogs which I'm working on next.

I read reseller reviews, and customers comments on the website and it's about a 60% - 40% of what you're going to get as in how satisfied you will be with it.

I know that's not a reassuring ratio to go off of, but for $300 (wiring harness included) you start to debate whether going through all the hassle to build your dream headlights is worth it knowing the expenses and worries you'll have, for me it was how well they would be sealed once I finished retrofitting.


I got that ratio because like Husker said, they might be wired backwards.. Hell, who knows I thought it was just me who encountered shitty wiring. But that like everything else is fixable. The build quality is good, but not great

I'd be happier if they weren't CCFLs, anyone would. And a reflector ive noticed isn't in place like the other is, but it is a VERY minor detail you'd only notice if you stopped and stared into the lenses. Which only you would do.

Again, building your dream headlights or finding someone who would is really the only way to go, unless you don't care about all that fancy attention stuff. and yes I do plan on doing that in the future once these have had their run, but upgrading to Xenon while maintaining halos was a big priority for me. What sold me really was the 3 little lights above H/L beams... that sh*t looks mean as hell when the sun starts to set.

SO, are these headlights worth it? Absolutely, if you can reason with what you're getting and know they are not the best out there, but for what you're paying its not a bad grab either. The jagged projected beam be can be adjusted. It just doesn't bug me like it may others because when you're driving down the road that little unevenness affects your headlight range probably by 5% and that just isn't enough for me.

Don't really care about the high beams either, because they came factory yellow and Xenon lights are bright enough to where you'll never have to use them I promise you. especially in 6k. so that was no issue for me either.

And that's me as a user being as HONEST and STRAIGHT FORWARD as I can, just like these guys are. And that's why this forum is so helpful because you won't find that hospitality just anywhere

Went and scooped up some brand new takeoff '14+ SR5 rims locally for a heck of a deal!! As soon as I find some new tires to fit the up size in wheel I will post some pics. I know lots of people are awaiting pics of the different 5th gen wheels on our 4th gens :eyebrows:
