What did you do with your 4runner today?

Drive to harbor freight and picked up some things.magnetic storage bowl. Magnet on a stick and a 20 bin storage case.
Good to leave in my trunk. Need to resupply some connectors.

Installed a Cobra 75wx cb radio and firestik. I ordered an antenna mount on amazon but it didn't work out, so I just zip tired it to my rack. Think I'm going to get a lip mount comet rs720 or attach it to my ladder when I get my roof rack. It worked decent for anyone in front of me.

The processor is tiny, so i tucked it under the seat.

Then I headed out to Ocotillo Wells with a couple of friends.

I have 6 0f those HF storage containers I use 3 large deep for spare parts, hoses, bushings, tie rods etc etc and 3 shallow electrical items,fuses, wire and nuts and bolts container, washers,zerks, misc etc. which all I toss in my rig when I go out wheeling for trail repairs. I do t know how many people myself included that I have helped getting fixed up and able to get back home, with all that I carry in those containers.
But you need to get back in your rig and go to HD cause they're having a much better deal right now for 7 bucks you can get either bundle of containers

Today I was able to change my non telescopic steering column for one that is. It moved my steering wheel about an inch closer to the driver seat which is what I was after. I'm tall and find that when the seat was adjusted comfortably the wheel seemed a little too far for my liking.

The OCD in me is asking you take the picture at 65mph next time

I didn't take any pictures during the install, but here is the final product minus the lower cover, the bottom cover on the telescopic models has a long rectangular hole that allows for the adjustment lever to be accessed.

The second and third shots show the range of adjustment.

Oh wow. Thanks for the update. So it was just swapping for an OEM piece with telescoping? From a Limited I suppose. Surprised it's just a mechanical adjustment. Figured it would be electric. But now that I think about it, my wife's Venza is loaded and the steering wheel adjustments are mechanical. Maybe manufacturers going away from that. Costs savings for a set it and forget it adjustment probably. Also less failure prone.

The swap was really straight forward. After doing some research on the subject I read about another member on this site that had a shop swap out pieces of the column to convert it to being telescopic.

If I remember correctly that was about $1000! Ouch!

So after reviewing the parts schematics between the two columns it looked like it was going to be a pretty easy swap, I sourced a complete column from an 04 Limited 4x4 on EBay and went to work with the swap.

After the steering wheel and lower dash cover were removed I removed the combo switch cluster. There are 4 nuts holding the column in place and one bolt at the end of the column where it attaches to the steering shaft coupler.

Yes the pictures below are of the old column but all the mounting points are the same. The third picture shows the gold bolt that is at the end of the shaft.

Yeah superman3043, I guess that's Toyota's way of keeping costs down. My 06 Infiniti G35 had an electric steering column that was nice, but my wife's 2012 RAV4 is mechanical like the 4runners.

Not today, but this past weekend I organized a trail run to the Knik Glacier near Wasilla Alaska! Had a great turn out... with alot of jeeps XD. @ordinaryoverland
