Driving in 4x4 with the center diff unlocked did not cause your axles to fall apart. Did you use OEM?

Funny thing is i installed passanger side and not driver side cause westhet st the time took it to pepboys to install it cause 3 weekends in a row of rain or snow
Pepboys did the driver side and driver side is leaking worse than passanger
There oil EVERYWHERE!!!

I'm pretty certain "OEM replacement" just means they're manufactured to OE specs, not that they're genuine Toyota replacement parts.

No, OEM would be Original Equipment Manufacturer. Toyota in this case. There are a ton of reports of issues using non-OEM CVs from vibration to breakage and likely this leak.

Yeah, I know what OEM stands for. I was saying that "OEM replacement" parts from O'Reilly's, Auto Zone, etc. are supposed to be manufactured to OE specs. OEM parts would be genuine Toyota parts bought from a local dealer.

Speaking of axles, I rebuilt my OEM axle today. The inner boot was torn, so I pulled it out and inspected it for damage, then reassembled with Moog boots.

Got my 08 SR5 a month ago. Replaced two bad front calipers, rotors, pads and sway bar bushings. I've never done a more satisfying brake job. Stops straight and on a dime and no more annoying thumps from the old bushings.

This is my third runner. I had 2 third gens (ol' red and silver bullet) and toyota runs in the family
Ive replaced many cv axles but never seen this kind of "damage" before. I guess ill go to toyota and use my wifes discount to get 2 cv axles for it and see how that works out
I know its not safe to drive loosing all that fluid

There are stories about aftermarket axles being too long, and if you look at how little play the axles have at full droop when installed, it's easy to see how a slightly longer axles could destroy itself. Sometimes cheaper parts houses don't build to the same tolerances as the OEMs, or they just use a design that works in other cars and assume it'll be the same here without doing all their research.

Spent the weekend in Daniel Boone National Forest, took the long way home following parts of the Kentucky Adventure Tour (KAT) and up through to Bonnell Rd in Guilford IN. The creek was too flooded from rain to attempt the multiple crossings playing it safe but there were lots of cool tunnels to play in.

I've had an auto parts store axle disintegrate because of a bad casting after 20ft of driving at a max of 1/2 throttle (on my 3000GT). I'll never trust em again.

Holy. Sh*t. I got caught out in pea-sized hail on my bike a few weeks ago. Can't begin to imagine that crap.

Genuine Toyota (04427-60140) Drive Shaft Boot Kit on Amazon. Looks like its $42 right now. When I was doing mine I called a couple places that rebuild OEM axles and make chromoly axles to see if I could order boots from them and they said they use original Toyota stuff cause the outer boot is the hard plastic and heavier duty than most aftermarket stuff. So that's what I used.
