What did you do with your 4runner today?

Water pump and oil changed by my buddies at Toyota. While I had it there, I had them leave my rusty skid plate off so I could repaint it. Chicago winters did a toll on it so I just sanded it down and threw a few coats of Rustoleum on it for now since it's pretty much a lost cause. Also dipped the middle part of the chrome SR5 grill. Apologies for the cell photos, I'll get some dslr quality one's up soon =)

Got my oil sample analysis back. 3500 out of approximately 4500 miles were while towing across country. Looks pretty good.

Finally installed the rear OME trim packer to the Toytec super flex springs to get rid of drivers side lean- was about an inch higher on the passenger side, now less than a quarter inch difference. I also have the front trim packer installed (since I installed the suspension) and the 4Runner is nearly equal side to side with a full tank of gas!

Got my new dash installed and also thanked the boys for their help on both 4th gen dash replacement threads (I just figured out there was two).
I pulled my head unit so the tech wouldn't tear anything up.

I love the sound from these units. But does the navigation drive you nuts?

I use google maps almost exclusively now.

It does dumb crap like when you zoom out 4x, all the surface roads go away. So you can't cruise back roads and use a birds eye view. And tons of lag.

I used to have a kenwood DNX8120. I loved that version of the Garmin. I still have it in my wife's car and it is superior.

I need to update my map. If I find a copy, you want one?

Rigged up the stock Toyota spyder cargo net PT347-89030 as an overhead cargo net. Sorry, no pics, but there's refs on this thread.

One of the cheapest and most effective mods that can be done, the cargo area roof is an unused area for light cargo like raincoats, ponchos, sweatshirts, umbrellas, dry clothing, shoes, microfiber towels, etc, etc. You have to weave some bungees in to stiffen it up but the anchor points are already there using the rear grab handles and the rear grocerybag hooks. Just requires some ingenuity.

How much does that bike weigh? And do you notice it much?

I've had fleeting thoughts of hauling my CBR around like that, but I don't think it'd work quite as well as something like yours...

I used to haul my Yamaha FZ6 like this. 440 lbs wet. Gotta reinforce those harbor freight carriers though. Replace the aluminum tube-to-carrier bracket with the HF steel tow hitch adapter.
Front end felt pretty light, but drive like this for hours and hours

Just VHT niteshaded my tails with the red paint to get rid of the amber indicators. Now I have red tails and it looks OEM. Love this paint!

Restored my wife's headlights using the rainx kit. Took about an hour. See results, look good to me.

Cleaned battery acid buildup from the Neg lug and cable. Had to slice the OEM cable open, scraped with a flathead and razorknife, then many applications/rinsing with baking soda paste and a q-tip. The truck worked OK before, but looked nasty and with a new 27F battery it needed a cleanup. The cable strands weren't deteriorated, a coat of dielectric, wrap it, pull the ground bolt on the fender, dielectric, good to go.

Felt washers on the new 27F terminals, PO neglected that.

Got truck ready for upcoming road trip. F&R diffs, transfer case, oil, brake flush, greased driveshafts.

Then drove to Bend to pick up my new CVT tent! Pretty cool group of guys working there.

Changed the spark plugs and PCV valve. At 132k miles this was the first time it's been done. Just bought the truck about a month and a half ago. Next up: suspension and fluid changes.

Yeah, it's definitely super slow. I like that it's a Garmin, but faster response would be nice. I changed it from the 3D view to a standard heading-up 2D, and that seems to have helped with the detail level changing. I think you can adjust the detail shown too, no? The Garmin is great when I'm somewhere without cell service, though, which is the whole reason I bought it.

Unfortunately, my sound still sucks. I've got the JBL Synthesis system, and I've got a digital converter. It works, but a better solution is on my to-do list. All my speakers are working fine, so I'll probably just wire up a new amp.
