What did you do with your 4runner today?

Well, last weekend but never too late to share...

Well worth it for the ride quality. Can't wait to upgrade the rear shocks.

Hopefully you have the benefit of having service records from your Dad but timing belt, spark plugs, fluids (brake, trans, coolant, PS) would be first on my list if they have not been done. Suspension components may need to be replaced but just have to inspect to see.

What I know so far:
Transmission was replaced @ 38,000mi due to issues. Fluid changes (oil, transmission, diff, brake) was performed every 15,000mi. I though read since then Toyota treats the transmission as "lifetime fluid" which I believe is bullshit (BMW had the same policy on their auto trans). I would assume sparks have been done. I know my parents have all of the service records

Timing belt also has not been performed. Suspension in general has not been touched and that is where my real concern is. Hopefully I can create a thread soon to talk about this.

Whammy,

Your concern over the suspension should be secondary, the main concern is the timing belt, it's due to be replaced at 90,000 miles, if it breaks the engine is toast, bent valves, broken pistons etc., do it first and foremost!!!

You may as well do the water pump, a new thermostat and timing belt related idler pulleys at the same time since all the things you need to remove to replace them will be off to do the timing belt, don't get the cheapest parts you can find, go with OEM quality parts, you can get a timing belt/water pump kit with everything you will need, then the engine will be good for another 90,000 to 100,000 miles, other then the basics, plugs, oil changes, filters, fluid changes etc.

As far as starting your own topic, you only need another 11 posts or so, so you can respond to this post, then check out a few other topics and make a comment on each topic and you should get the required number of posts quickly enough to be able to start your own topic!!

Tested the 24-can AO cooler for 24 hours inside the garage. 91 degrees in the garage starting at 1400 yesterday, cooled down to about 65 overnight, back up to 92 by 1400 today.

I put 14 1" square icecubes in it, eight were still square. That's pretty good, I like it for $60. I'm tired of lugging hardside coolers around and storing them. A cake pan of block ice it will do fine.

Thanks AuSeeker for the info! Greatly appreciated! I will definitely tell my dad about the timing belt and ask that he get it replaced.

Got around to editing some footage from my long weekend of camping in Green Mountain National Forest last weekend. Really pretty place up there and a blast to explore some of the dirt roads around.

Planning on breaking out my porter cable buffer to FINALLY bring a shine to my paint, decided to do a "mild detail" to my rig today so I don't take as long on Sunday.

To shine tires/engine bay/ rear tailgate bumper plate/splash guards/ wiper cowl: Meguiars "Insane Tire Shine"
To shine interior dash/doors: Meguiars Natural Shine protectant.

Hilux mirrors?

Back from a 960 mile trip, about 20.5 MPG trip thru CA. 65-75 speeds. Probably better if I had already done the spark plugs and gear oil (41K)

Fixed Transfer Case Actuator 2005 SR5 V6

I fixed my stuck t-case actuator today. I engaged it yesterday and got the dreaded beep-beep-beep.

I jogged the forum and followed the advice I found. Engage 4Lo - roll forward & back - disengage 4Lo - roll forward & back - repeat-repeat-repeat FIXED!!!! I got lucky, but I wanted to share this in case anyone else is feeling stuck with the same issue.

Hang in there friends! Before for you drop big $$$$$ on replacing parts rock it back & forth, tap it with a hammer, loosen it up and spray some lube in it.

The 2007, used a transfer pump to draw out and replace the front diff fluid. 10mm Allen drain plug wasn't budging. Transfer pump via the 10mm Allen fill plug works.

If you want you can replace the 10mm fill plug with a 24mm hex plug from the transfer case.

Bunch of maintenance/preventative maintenance: full transmission fluid flush, coolant flush, front/rear diff and transfer case fluid (amsoil 75-90), new serpentine belt, oil change, cleaned throttle body/maf, new plugs (NGK), PCV valve.

Also ordered new HID kit with philips bulbs from Xenon Depot (4300k)

Quick question, I had a shop do my front/rear diff and transfer case. I gave them 7 quarts of amsoil synthetic and they gave me 1.5 quarts back when I picked the truck up. This is a Toyota shop (not dealer) and most of the employees own tacomas or 4runners. Should I be concerned? According to the thread in the maintenance forum I should of got only 1 quart back at most, not 1.5

Half a quart over three diffs is nothing to worry about.

Decided it was time to do some general maintenance and try a few things to quiet the runner, and also rotate the tires.

Lubed the drive line.

Discovered I have a torn cv boot ...

I put seafoam liquid in the oil and gas and ran it for a while. Then I put the spray into the throttle body and changed the oil while it hot soaked. I added 1qt of Lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer to the oil.

The difference is pretty shocking.

The lifters and Toyota ticks are so quiet you barely hear it anymore. The only sound I hear driving now is exhaust. When I'm stopped, it no longer sounds like I'm running a diesel.

Incredible results for $20-30.

Also by rotating the tires I've somehow managed to get rid of the steering wheel shimmy which I thought was an unbalanced tire, sketchy handling at highway speeds which I thought was sway bar/end links, and what I thought was a bad alignment.

Now if only there was an easy solution for all the rust.

Where's the outlet for the 115v? Was this a factory option?

The 115v outlet was a factory option, but not standard equipment on all models, standard on Limited model only, if you have it you would have the switch seen in the photo and the outlet is located in the console storage compartment in the front at the bottom
