I can sort of relate right now. Thirty eight years old and got a case of shingles. Yep- the senior citizens affliction. Ha. It sucks. Hurts like a son of a *****. If you should ever got to the doctor and they tell you that you have shingles, politely decline and ask for something else.
I feel ya... I got it in my mid 20's. For me it'll go away and come back. I find it usually returns under heavy stress and not taking care of myself in terms of diet and exercise. It never goes away because it's the chicken pox virus. Most people have it dormant in their body. That is if they had chick pox as a child.
That sucks. Although it would be a good motivator to stay on top of living healthier. The literature says it only returns in less than 5% of people so I'm praying that I fall into that 95%.
You said you got a case. That would mean you're already in the 5%
I meant that only 5% of people that get shingles get it again. I'm not sure what the numbers are for people that had chicken pox and then end up with shingles is. Either way, this one time is good. It can go away and never come back and I'll be good.
Holy crap Mo! You poor man. How long do they usually last for you? I'm at ten days right now, and it doesn't really seem to be letting up at all.
Nope. Can't get it until 50. Dr. B told me that the last five people he's seen with it were all around 40. Apparently us young folk are just S.O.L.
Thanks. As crappy as its been I think I've gotten off fairly lightly. The rash was only about the size of two quarters behind my ear. Had some in my ear which has sucked. The worst part has been the main nerve running down the side of my neck. That thing is swelled up and I can feel it down into my chest under my collarbone. It's weird.
Had chickenpox fairly late in life (15) and it was horrible. Some people that get it when they're really young have a few bumps and a small fever. Not I. It put me out of commission for a full two weeks with a high fever for most of it (think I hit 103.3 at one point) and I was covered literally head to toe. There was at least one spot in any given 2"x 2" square of my body and I've got scars all over that don't seem like they'll ever go away (they sure haven't gotten any better in the last 8 years).
Yeah, a lot of my scars are from a night during my chickenpox when I mixed topical and oral Bendryl by accident. Ended up having a really bad reaction and couldn't really control my scratching that I'd done so well to avoid (my body was freaking out).
