What did you do with your 4runner today?

:happy: :happy: It's been a SoCal rig it's whole life. It's funny, I had Rocksteady install it (since I live here) and the guy was seeing this was the cleanest, most rust-free 4Runner he's seen.

First snow driving of the year last night. My truck has General Grabber at2's on it, which are mountain-snowflake rate and generally very good in the winter.
Well last night was just the right combo of snow, temp and moisture. In town driving was the slipperiest I've encountered and I've been driving in northern New England for almost 30 years. :surfer:
At one point I was going around a right hand turn at about 10 mph (any faster was causing out of control slides) and the truck just came to a complete stop halfway through the intersection. All 4 wheels started spinning and traction control shut everything down. In 4HI, on flat pavement. :scared:Had to lock in the center diff (which turns off traction control) so I could spin tires and get moving. Every turn I took in town was a slip-slidy, oversteer/understeer mess. It was really something.
But hey.. we needed Chinese food.

Looks great! I'm waiting on mine to show up, I got the bumper filler piece too so we'll see how it all fits but good to see someone else already making it work.

Not glamorous, but needed...
Drained and filled (w/ Mobile 1 full syn) my front & rear differentials and T-case. T-case and rear oils looked good... but the front not so much. Wondering if the stealership neglected to change it last time I had them do their "4x4 service" (The front drain plug was stripped pretty bad and it was a PITA to get loose and drain ... guess I am just wondering out loud, cause they'd never fess up to something like that). I guess that's why they say if you want it done right, do it yourself (thanks [MENTION=34218]snowbizx[/MENTION] for the great write up w/ pictures on this - made it super easy to do). Anyhow, its done and it now has full syn in there... so, Im happy about that.arty:

Nice! I probably saw yours while I was there, they were getting ready to pack things up and ship them.
One piece of advice, if you got the transfer case skid plate, make sure you push the exhaust hangers up as high as possible when you install the cross-piece (it'll be obvious what I mean). The exhaust cross-over was tapping the skid plate when I would go in reverse with the wheels at full right lock. 5 minutes with a socket wrench (12mm) and I'm good to go.
Had to get my alignment adjusted this morning and the tech called over everyone in the shop to check out the skids he was so impressed. :thumb:

Spent a good portion of this week re-wiring my 4runner. I did the previous wiring on a item by item basis as I bought them, and it got messy. And got annoying to try to add anything to it.
And since I have a mobile wiring business, the sloppy work in my own vehicle couldn't serve as an example of how I wire customers vehicles. So out it came!
The old cell booster antenna wound up being too short for the new location of the booster, and the rack lighting wire is going to get routed correctly this time!
Once it's all out and you're ready to start over (or start correctly), HAVE A PLAN! Harnesses are much easier to make if you know what's supposed to be in them!
Follow the vehicle harness! If it was safe enough for the factory to go that way, your wires will be safe too. The choose routes away from moving parts and sharp things for a reason. You should too. Might as well lay down a little sound proofing while you're at it.
Zip tie it tight and don't be afraid to zip tie a lot! Get the wires ready for the panels to be placed back into the truck.
And when adding your new outlets and ports and gadgets and goodies, get creative! Get stealthy! This Engel fridge power port is hidden by the rear seat when the fridge is out and the seat is in the upright position!

Installed a Pioneer head unit at my buddy's and a Christmas miracle happened on the way home... it snowed :whoo:
I found a nice empty lot and had me some fun. Unplugging the TC/VCS/ABS harness really does make the 4Runner more funner. I'm definitely wiring in a switch as others have done to disable the electronic nannies. This truck is SO much fun in raw form.

Decided to see what this looks like for $30 off eBay. I love the look, but the vinyl isn't of the highest quality so it requires quite a bit of care when applying (I got a few bubbles that don't go away so easily even popping them with a pin). But overall, l dig it.

Lol that was a big part of the reason why I did it... right side there was a big scrape across the bottom... this covered 90% of it up... can't even tell it was there.
And yeah, I usually like a clean look as well, but I also thought this looked "really OK" lol... that's kind of like "mildly furious" or "incredibly decent" :bounce:
