i am confused. why deadened the roof when the sound is coming from the doors? if he should deadened the roof, then the whole car windows should be deadened for a full surround sound experience. :lmao:

Aftermarket roof racks and light bars, and to some extent the factory roof rack with things on it can be loud when cruising. More insulation from cold weather/hot weather because there is only the single thin metal panel for the roof. Driving through rain will be quieter as well.
You will be adding weight to the tallest part of your vehicle though.
Oh, makes sense when you put it that way. Thanks for enlightening me. I thought deadened was more for stereo, but never thought of it insulating or blocking exterior sounds at the same time.
I usually cruise with the music rocking loud. so noise won't bother me much.

Finally got around to prepping and painting these Trail Edition rims. I cleaned and sanded the rims inside and out. I then primed them using Duplicolor Sandable Primer. 2 coats of that then 4 coats of Duplicolor Wheel paint in Satin Black. This is my second time doing a set of rims and I really hope it's my last. Sanding and prepping the tires take a really long time.

youll gain more sound back after you do the doors atleast. i want to do my roof too, driving through rain, you wont hear much of it.

use a heat gun and itll help with the curves, its like window tint, some heat will make it shrink and form to the curve.
A guy at work let me have some leftover vinyl wrap so i attempted to do my hood. Scoop came out ok but i messed up the rest of the hood and had to peel it back off. I will try again when it warms up

So it turns out the Panasonic battery in my 2005 4runner, is the original. [emoji33] Rated for 550 CCA and it’s only testing out at 267 CCA. No wonder it’s having trouble in minus double digit mornings.
Replaced with a fat, gold 700 CCA battery from Advanced auto parts. The guy was super helpful and did the install and everything. He complimented my clean and un-crusty engine bay as it made his job quick and easy.
Sometime this year Advance will be going with Interstate batteries

The FJ's have a roof mounted speaker so it would help out in that scenario too!
Which hatch struts did you go with? I'm in the market to replace mine too - these things are expensive imho.

I thought about doing sound deadening, but after checking into how much work it is to cut all the pieces, and the high expense of quality materials, I decided that my rig is just fine. I'm not an audio connoisseur, so there was no real reason to do it, in my case anyway. BTW, getting the panels off and stripping the truck didn't take more that an afternoon. Especially if you have some help (which I didn't). You would need help to remove the headliner, though.
I can tell you one thing...if you have any major wiring projects, as I did, this is the way to go.

Did the first 2k miles:good grip in snow, mud and rain. A bit loud in +70mph, and fuel consumption up 10% from the stock Bridgestone Duelers which were on before.
Does anyone have experience with MALATESTA tires? Not much available online on these tiures.

Expenses/Trouble comes in 3's, right?
Spring on my garage door snapped in the cold. Had to put a new battery in the 4runner. And now the odd whine I was hearing the last few days has become much more pronounced.
What do you think? A pulley bearing of some sort? Started as a strange whine a few days ago but got a lot worse, quickly. Goes into the shop Friday.

Could also be an alternator. Mine's making a PS-like whining at the moment, but isn't getting any worse. I think I caused it by submerging it in muddy water....
