After waiting 8 weeks for backordered coilovers I finally got these in the mail and was able to install this week. So far I'm very impressed with the ride.

Icon 650lb springs with CDCV coilovers, Icon UCA with Delta joint. I also replaced the LCA with a new LBJ. The 4R is still sitting in the garage so no pics of the stance. Will try to get them tomorrow.

Joshua Tree

Decided to break in the new suspension out in Joshua Tree today. Had a hell of a time! Did a "moderate" rated trail and had zero issues until the last 1/4 mile where I accidentally went off trail. Almost got stuck in some ankle deep loose gravel, but kept that momentum going and got back on track. Everything was a cakewalk otherwise, but I definitely am learning what I can and can't/shouldn't attempt with my lowly 2wd.

Put on 285/70 Duratracs and had to put on the spidertrax that came new in a box from the previous owner. Finally ready to hit the dirt with it now!

spidertrax 1.25” spacers. An unfortunate necessity since I was rubbing the UCA arms and the sway bar. They’ll do for now until I can get some cheap TE rim takeoffs.

fairly deflated and worn BFG KO 285/70 in the spare location barely clearing panhard bar. For anyone else wondering, I have the V8 towing package hitch too. So, yeah, you can carry a 285/70 spare there it just has to be deflated and worn. I have a compressor so no worries there.

Edited to add: I'm just now noticing I have some negative rake going on. What the heck. Should I take out the .5" spacer up front? I'm sure it'll involve more trimming though for these tires, and probably mean I have to do a body mount chop considering the clearance is about half an inch as it sits now. What else can I do about that, or should I just not worry about it?

Installed the OME 3” suspension, the SCS Ray10s with 265/75R16 KO2s, and the Prinsu rack. Did the Timing belt package last week. Sound system is up next, but still shopping for the head unit. Then sliders. Then bumpers. Pouring $ into this thing like it’s a boat....

Busy week: air mix servos, 5th-gen brakes, Kenwood mechless HU

This week, I made some time to chisel away at the project backlog.

• The air mix servos on both driver and passenger side had been sounding like little mice behind the dashboard since I got the vehicle a year ago. I ordered the replacements from PartSouq for about half off list and had a local mechanic install them on Monday. (I'm planning to do a separate writeup with part numbers and caveats for other Limited owners.)
• On Thursday, I pulled out the $1300 Alpine INE-W927HD HU the previous owner had installed because it started to shut down on its own more and more frequently. Spent a couple of hours analyzing the exact setup including PAC TATO JBL interface, SWI-RC, and a voltage regulator for the 6V OEM backup camera. I also decided against relocating the DAC switch because I didn't want to open up the factory harness.
• On Friday, I had my regular mechanic perform a complete upgrade to 5th-gen front and rear brake calipers (Cardone/Advance Auto), Centric front (5th gen) and rear (4th gen), OEM pads, and Goodridge stainless steel brake lines.
• Today, Saturday, was dedicated to the installation of a Kenwood DMX-7704S HU. I spent the morning soldering the Kenwood harness to the existing interface harness. I then spent the afternoon on the Advance Auto parking lot doing the actual install along with a few other electrical improvements (e.g., replacing some flimsy fuse tabs with add-a-circuits). Reasons for choosing this Kenwood model: mechless (NO moving parts), Android Auto/Apple CarPlay-capable, two USB inputs, two camera inputs, good UX, affordable.

after work, went to gas station to fill my air bags up to 20 psi, went to home depot and loaded up the trunk with 8 80 pound bags of concrete. drove it home and the ride was pretty good, didnt bottom out like the tacoma did on some speed bumps. then found a loose screw, and it came from the cargo cover, so guys, make sure to tighten up the screws on your cargo cover, its 4 phillips screw.

Did an ATF exchange through the transmission cooler line today. Took about 12 qts of Toyota Type-IV before the fluid looked red. Could have used a couple more qts for one more cycle but I only bought a box of it.

i think so, i had about 750 total weight in the back with other things, couldnt feel any softness like i did with the tacoma.

I did an oil change this weekend. I also got some of my lift kit components. Now I am just waiting on springs.

Does anyone know what the part number is for the plastic cover that is over the radiator. I have been searching the internet and cant find Toyota's OE numbers.

Yeah, I reused the original breather cap at the top. It was a tight fit but I got it to work.


As for the dust cover, I bought 1/16" EPDM from this link:

and used the original mount clips. I had to replace the same big piece on both sides. The templates are on a thread here somewhere and that allowed me to know how much to order.

Not just today, but in the week since I purchased my 2005 SR5 V6, I've repainted my bull bar (black), touched up black on front and rear bumper and wheels, changed the spark plugs (one of the easiest cars to do this on that I've ever owned), flushed and filled cooling system with Toyota pink, repaired the disconnected rear washer line that flooded the front carpet, pulled all four wheels and looked around/checked brakes, passed smog, ordered LED backup lights.

Lots to do on this old truck.

Nice! I just did this with mine. I actually had a few feet of EPDM left over from a roofing project, so I use the templates and the originals to mark out some new ones. It's been on for a month or so and seems to work fine.
