What did you do with your 4runner today?

I'd be slightly concerned about running wires through those holes without some kind of grommet to keep the edge from wearing through the insulation due to vibration in the long-term. Wouldnt really need to worry if it was all just ground that went through the holes i suppose.

Valid point. I filed the edges of the holes so that they are smooth but will definitely keep an eye on the insulation to see if there is any rubbing. If there is I will make the holes bigger or add grommets.

Picked up replacement bolts for most of the engine bay.

Did one row of spark plugs. Will need some washers for the new bolts.

I think after I clear my driveway of my other car and clean up the garage, I’ll pull the valve covers and clean those up and polish the oil fill tube too. Now that I’m up to two projects can’t have two cars down at the same time.

Denso specifically states not to use anti seize. I’m sure NGK is the same ....

New tires today.

Goodyear Wrangler TrailRunner. We'll see how they turn out.

The Firestones lasted 66,000. Not bad!

Also got convinced to replace my TPMS sensors, but I didn't do the spare... I might have to go back :blah:

I'd definitely go with an aftermarket monitoring system over replacing and still using the built in one. One little shorted wire makes the dash light go away, and $70 on Amazon gets you a system that shows the actual tire pressure of each tire on a screen.

Kind of late, already bought the sensors, unless I can get something that reads from these sensors...

I might look into getting a Bluetooth OBDII scanner as I do have an Android radio capable of running TorquePro. That would make this actually worth it, then.

I use a scangauge II to read/monitor mine (needs to have the most recent firmware).

I got my gauge used on ebay for about $50, printed a bracket to mount it where I like for $25, then spent $25 getting it updated so it could read the TPMS pressures directly.it's a pretty nifty setup now IMO.

Went ahead and chunked the antiseize contaminated ngk spark plugs in the trash and picked up a new set at the stealer this morning just to be safe. Left the rig down instead of chancing any potential issues in the future

I'm fairly certain this is to prevent people from using the same torque spec when using anti-seize, as anti-seize acts as a lubricant which increases the torque #, which makes it easier to strip the head.

I still apply some anti-seize. Never had issues.

Agreed. I've always used anti-seize and just make sure I don't torque them too much.

Wish you guys had said something sooner lol before I threw away 8 anti seized plugs...[emoji28]

Trying to get it to start first...

Drove home Wednesday after work just like every other day, no problems. Didn't try to start it again until Friday evening. Turn the key over and it sounded like the starter just jams into the flywheel and won't mesh with the teeth...tried again and the same result. Had the starter tested at two different auto stores and both times it checked out good. Re-installed starter and tried again, sounds worse this time. Battery has 12.5 volts, timing marks look good... I'm dumbfounded to say the least. Any ideas fellow Runners?? 2000 3.4 245k miles, 2wd auto

Had a local shop move the exhaust out the side and also installed one of their in-house stainless mufflers. Sounded very similar to the Flowmaster I had been looking at. So far I like that the V8 sounds like I have a V8 now. :D

I agree. I always use anti seize, especially with aluminum heads and never had an issue. Like you mentioned, you just have to be mindful of how tight you torque them. I’ve been changing plugs for probably 35 years and never had an issue, nor have I ever needed a torque wrench for plugs. You just need to snug them by feel, not crank on them with a long breaker bar. Common sense is needed...

You should have just sprayed them with carb cleaner, or brake cleaner to clean the anti seize off if you were worried about it, but other than potentially causing someone inexperienced to overtorque the plugs, no harm can be cause by using anti seize.
