Getting ready for road trip
Spent the weekend getting it ready for a trip from Chicago area to Moab. Oil change, tire rotation, etc. Getting front end aligned today.
Planning on mostly easy trails in Moab as it's my first trip there and I am really a novice.
I haven't been out west since I was a little kid so I'm pretty excited.

Did the passenger CV axle this weekend. Super easy job in theory! I just undid the sway bar enlink, the axle nut, and the two 19mm bolts that hold the control arm support bracket (not sure what exactly to call it) to the spindle. The part that got me was getting the freaking c-clip on the end of the axle out of the diff. I used progressively larger prybars and could barely get them onto the lip of it. I finally popped it out, and then had a wonderful time getting the new one to go in.
But now it's done! And no more *POP POP POP* noise when I turn hard in 4WD

Over the weekend I installed the Magnaflow Cat-back system and added a Vibrant 2.5" Ultra Quiet resonator to take care of most of the drone issues.
Would definitely recommend using a lift or jack stands for this project. I didn't, and getting the stock exhaust out was a pain. Not enough room between the rear flange and the differential housing to get proper tools, but I was able to get it out with only a couple skinned knuckles. I dropped the entire system before disassembling the tail-pipe flange. Also needed to drop the spare to get the old tailpipe out and the new tailpipe in.
The Magnaflow system went back in in the same manner as the stock system, but assembly was much easier with the included clamps.
Also, make sure to save the exhaust flange gasket from your stock system (from the flange disassembled farthest towards the front of the vehicle, can see it just to the left of the hanger in the last photo) to re-use with the Magnaflow system.

Stock system ripped out... Went to a local 4R owner who was hit and had some damage to his stock system. Better than it going to the dump. Glad someone else is going to get some use out of it.

Pro-tip: Magnaflow as a minimum advertised price rule with a pretty large markup, so jump on eBay and offer ~$200 under listed price to any seller with "Make an offer" available, and you might get lucky. I was able to pick up my system for new ~$200 under listed retail.
Read here, that this system drones between 1800 and 2300 RPM, so had a muffler shop weld in a Vibrant 2.5" Ultra Quiet Resonator. Entire cat-back system is stainless.

As of now, the system sounds great. Deep tone at idle, and not too loud when accelerating. Even new, the cat-back system droned a bit too much for my liking, with the resonator, I'm really impressed.
Of course, the system has to fully burn-in over the next few hundred miles so this may change, but I'm not expecting too drastic of a change.
The goals of the system were to get a bit more aggressive tone, get the exhaust gasses farther out into the flow of air to further reduce the amount of gasses pulled into the cabin with the hatch door window down, and to have a system ready for the install of the DT long tube and y-pipe.

Had a set of Falken WildPeak AT3W installed today. While on the lift found I had a bad wheel bearing, and a blown front strut. Luckily, I had ordered two bearings over a year ago, when I replaced one. Got home and changed out the bad bearing and also ordered a replacement strut. So next weekend, I'll be replacing this strut and the front struts on my daughters Matrix.

Wew. That's a lot of oil. Might not be a bad idea to replace your valve cover gaskets/spark plug gaskets.changed out my spark plugs.. Old ones wereuke:

Alignment complete. Wasn't sure I really needed it after suspension work but I'm glad I did. Tracks much better now.
I discovered a cracked windshield just below drivers wiper. Trying to get repaired before road trip. Fingers crossed.

It was it was only on the threads not on the tips so maybe previous owner overapplied antisieze and that’s what was on threads? It was gooey and sticky

Yeah, could be something like that if it's sticky. Looked a lot like oil in the pic. I'd take a look at em in a couple hundred miles to see if they're black again.

AHaaa, this may likely be the cause of my popp popp sound, when turning in 4wd..my mecganic may have forgotten to install that clip when he worked on my cv shaft:attention:
anything to worry about driving the truck as it is?

The c-clip is part of the axle and would be *really* hard to get off. If he didn't install it again it'd be leaking fluid and the axle could just fall out. So that'd be bad.....
If the CV is just dried out/dead/popping when you turn in 4WD, it's not a *huge* issue if you're just dailying it in 2WD. If you push it in 4WD though, odds are the axle is gonna snap. Which is more of a pain than anything else, since you still have the normal drive wheels. That said, it should definitely still be replaced before too long.

While I didn't directly do anything to my baby today...I did place my order for my Demello single hoop bumper! Aside from the lift, this is mod has always been at the top of my list. I was going to go with the Shrockworks, but Demello is an hour away. Saves me big time on shipping, plus I can have them install it at their shop.
Lead time quoted was 10-12 weeks, but pretty much any company worth ordering from has a long wait.

I never really minded the chrome badges, though I also don’t think they look great against the silver paint. I didn’t want to debadge or go with as stark a contrast as black so I looked at different PlastiDip options until I ran across the one they call Smoke. Four coats worked perfectly, ending up as kind of a satin gunmetal, which is exactly what I wanted. (The light isn’t exactly the same in these two pics but you get the idea.)
