What did you do with your 4runner today?

Just so you know, it isn’t actually a bolt. The shaft has a threaded section beyond the arm bushing with a nut that retains it. So, you should be able to carefully cut the nut off with a small Dremel cutoff wheel similar to what I did with the arm bushing. You may be able to then just run a die over the threads and replace the nut after the new arm is on.

Thanks for telling me that. Ive been out of the game too long, Im a little "rusty" I knew those were held on with a nut but frustration got the best of me this time. I did dremel it off and got the new one on tonight:guitar2:

side note if anyone finds this in the future- the nut is m6x1.00

Bled the brakes again as some aeration was introduced. I don't know tf that happened. Normal driving, no high brake usage.

Quick question: does the master cylinder cap come to a hard stop when screwing in? Mine seems to rotate forever.

I have been battling error codes on mine since I purchased it and slowly knocking them off. Replaced the fuel cap today and now I am down to just a P0106 error code. Trying to isolate what's causing it so I also changed the pcv valve today because it was all caked up but the code is still there.

I had ordered a maf sensor from Amazon but I believe it's a Chinese knock off and the error code comes back quicker with it installed. Now I am back to using the original one. I think I will order a genuine replacement from Rockauto just so I can rule it out as the cause of the P0106.

You will soon come to find that OEM is the way to go on these vehicles. Buy once cry once. Used to own a silverado that didnt care what you did/put in to it, but this 4runner is very picky it seems

anybody know where to get the clip for the headlamp filler piece? noticed it was broken and didnt think it was gonna be this big a deal to find a new one. the only thing I havnt done is read through all the headlight threads and see if anyone mentions it.

Changed the spark plugs out @ 155k. They were all clean, and looked good. Other than the wear from 45k miles of driving, think I'll keep to the 30k schedule for them.

steering rack bushing question

New to the forum here....
Cant start thread so Ill try to get some info here maybe?
Bought the poly bushings for the 03 to 09 Toyota steering rack but after I pulled the rack out there is 2 mounting locations on the rack to the cross member. The one side is oblong and the other is round. Is this normal?? The new poly bushings are both round?? TCould this be the cause of my rack moving slightly upon turning the steering wheel. The bolt can move back and forth in the oblong bushing.

I actually got an RV backup camera with a 7" monitor delivered today.
I got a rear tire carrier, and yes, I can see behind me, through the spokes and around the tire but, just not as good as I'd like lol.
I had thought of this and planned for it when I got the tire carrier, so I finally ordered it. Will install it this weekend.

ya, it should tighten and stop. brake fluid exposed to air collects moisture (not good) depending on how long the cap has been like that, it may be part or all of your problem

My previous phone mount was in the 12V socket down on the console. Tired of having to look down there, and inspired by a fabricated metal phone mount posted by [MENTION=119029]NinjaOne[/MENTION] (Thanks!), I made one out of this sheet aluminum from Home Depot. Then I added this magnetic mount from Walmart.

The first step was cutting several test templates from manila folders to get the fit right and figure out where the bends needed to be. I drilled holes and attached it to the side of the HU with the bolts that attach the side trim then ran it up and over to the center of the HU, then out/up/out to form the "shelf" on which the phone mount sits.

The aluminum used is strong enough for the purpose but thin enough to be cut with tin snips and shaped without needing special tools. Some stick on rubber padding isolates it from the metal on the HU casing.

I used strips of this Scotch fastener tape (love that stuff!) on the top of the molding/back of the up part of the metal to strengthen the shelf and ended up also adding a small L-brace underneath the shelf. That eliminated a tiny bit of jiggle that probably wouldn't bother 99% of the world's population but it did me. Used a leftover plastic piece from a shelf or some such.

It's rock-solid now, having been accidentally proven off the pavement today when I impulsively turned into a power line road where the gate was open and there was no signage about keeping out or trespassing. Expected a glorified fire road but holy hell, it was rough and rutted such that I almost got stuck. But the Phone stayed right in place and wasn't bouncing at all! :biggrin1:

It's not perfect since it blocks a bit of the HU screen when in portrait mode, but that's a small tradeoff for the overall convenience of having it at eye level.

man, you're gonna hate that thing being in the way of the HU. I deal with the same thing in my work van and it is so annoying. I mostly just listen to podcasts so I dont even use the screen that much but when I listen to music its a major burden when trying to look at the song or artist info etc.
