You can pick the smokers kit up from eBay. It’s plug and play and a simple install. I removed the cigarette lighter popper thing and put in a USB adapter which connects to my KENWOOD headunit for apple carplay.

The switches you can get from CH4x4 Industries - Rocker Switches Push Switches Custom Switches. They have ones that are direct fit and style of the oem toyota switches. I used their editor and custom made my own. It’s really simple and they are great quality and ship quickly.

So let me ask you a question. Regarding your USB that you put in place, I'm trying to do something similar, but in the rectangle style blank switches on my car. But I'm having trouble finding a proper USB power switch to put in. Here is the thread I posted last night:

Also, I'm confused but what do the switches you mentioned from ch4x4 have to do with this ashtray thing or with your setup that you mentioned? Or are you saying you got your USB switch from ch4x4 that you put in the ashtray kit?

I got my 4Runner to engage 4Lo for the first time ever today! I've owned it for a year and it's never gone into 4Lo before. I am certain the previous owner never used it (judging by its pristine interior/exterior condition).

Since winter time ended, I haven't been using 4Hi as much and even that was starting to take awhile to engage. So I had been messing with it more lately and I gave it about 12 tries to get into 4Lo and it finally clicked in!

I've been debating whether or not I even want to build up the 4Runner if 4Lo didn't work and I didn't want to shell out $2000 to rebuild the transfer case when the 4Hi was already working. So this is some great news!

haha very true! I can't decide if I want to ditch the limited wheels for some 17" TRD Pros, or keep them and just have 18" A/T tires on them.

You've maybe noticed, but there's a guy local to us selling TRD Pro wheels on Craigslist for $1200 with new tires... but they're highway tires

Got the Billstein 5100's and Dobinson springs installed and came out pretty darn level. Planning on doing a lo pro bumper and winch in spring, so I think it will sit just right then. Also went with airlift bags in the back for when loaded with gear to fight the squat.

I think it will line up OK without the JBA UCA's, but I think I'm going to put them on today anyway since I have them. Then new tires (either cooper st maxx or duratrac in 255/75/17) and an alignment and will go find somewhere to put it through its paces this coming weekend...

I don't have the cash for that rack, but it looks really, really nice! Happy to see it installed. I like the idea of aluminum also to drop some of the weight.

Changed out my driver’s side front wheel bearing assembly & started on the passenger side only to find that my previous mechanic over torqued the axle nut and I can’t remove it. Getting an impact wrench tomorrow. The nut isn’t even stock either. Weird.

Are you sure he didn't cross thread it, he would have to really lay on it to over torque it, the torque is suppose to be 173 ft. lbs?

Not sure but maybe I figured out why the nut isn’t stock: it’s an aftermarket axle (had it replaced not long after I get the 4R). Wondering if there’s any chance it’s reverse threaded?

To find out take a close look at the threads, counterclockwise to loosen is normal threads.

I haven’t messed with mine yet, but I did some work on a buddies Cherokee where I had to pull the front axels. I think the tightening specs were similar to the 4R.

It took my 190lbs butt bouncing on the end of a 4’ extension pipe on good breaker bar to get them to free up. I have a Craftsman 1/2”drive one and was surprised I didn’t break it.

Installed some USB ports on the dash. Plugged one into the back of the head unit for Android Auto, plugged the other into a USB charger that's plugged into a lighter plug under the dash.

The nut was just stubborn, at least until it met my little friend. :boxer:

The nut had marinaded in PB Blaster overnight and today I still couldn’t budge it with a 2-foot breaker bar. Used HF’s coupon to get the impact wrench for $15 off (so $94.99) and that nut was spinning within 4 seconds of saying hello to Mr. Bauer.

Finished the job and the test drive was thankfully uneventful.

So I’ve read that an alignment is necessary after changing out the bearings. Is that accurate for when the whole assembly is replaced or only when new bearings are pressed into the existing assembly?

If your bearing were extremely bad then maybe an alignment would be called for but otherwise I would say no, but I would at least get it checked for peace of mind, most places will check it for free and then go from there.
