What did you do with your 4runner today?

Rebuilt my front and rear bumpers.

The rear tire carrier is mounted to a rear bumper I built. The latches hook up to boxed mounts mounted to reinforced steel plates on the inside of the rear hatch. Before I get crucified on this- it IS reinforced, the bolts are no where near the glass, the hatch has ZERO wiggle and nearly zero stress are on the mounts (the bumper can be totally vertical and takes a bit of force to move either direction when not latched), I welded plate to the notched tubes so I can go back in and add accessories to it.

Wow, willing to bet I'm a minority on this board (mostly stock). Anyway, got a much deserved clean. Waxed everything except the doors and front fenders (ran out of wax).

New Headlights and LED Bulbs!

I washed and waxed my 4Runner this morning then replaced my headlight assemblies and upgraded all headlight bulbs to LED. What a difference it made and I'm very happy with the final results.

Rebooted both cv joints with SDHQ boots & OEM, along with Bilstein 5100 with OME springs and built right upper control arms. Will be doing the rears probably next weekend.

After installing JBA upper control arms on my 2003 Ltd two weeks ago, the absence of the original fender liners was especially pronounced. Made a set yesterday from tool drawer liner material using templates found on the forum. One hour of time and $7 invested.

can you link the templates? thanks in advance.

Got my X6S30 mounted in my plate bumper finally.

Took a bunch of fab work to get it in there. I had less than three inches total to spare from side to side and had to cut out a hole for the wire.

Initially drilled the wrong hole so I tacked it back in to use the pilot hole to drill the bigger hole.

It is a Coastal Off-road High Clearance bumper from #coastaloffroad.

I would not recommend purchasing from them. Although they did answer my questions some of my requests for pieces to be included with the bumper were never sent AND I had to pay extra money to have a change made. They take a few days to respond to emails as well.

I wouldn’t be as salty about the situation if I had received my cut out pieces as I asked. I had to come up with different lighting solutions afterwards which ended out ok like using the KC Cycles as blinkers.

The steel quality is top notch but the fitment while assembling the bumper caused the entire piece to be rotated towards the car so the bumper has a “negative rake”.

I didn’t have nearly as bad of an experience. I did order the standard bumper and no custom changes requested, which I believe any company would charge you for. The figment was ok for me, the only thing lacking a bit were the instructions. Someone a bit more experienced with this type of fab work/welding would have ended up with a better looking bumper than me, but I’m happy. Pic for reference.

Also, paint that thing before it completely rusts over lol.

I have Steel-it coming in today but won’t paint it for another week or so. I want to figure out all my lighting before I paint it. Don’t know if I want amber or white flood lights in the square holes. I don’t mind spending half a hour knocking off surface rust. Did you not want to grind down your joints so they were flush after you were done welding?


My issue with putting it together is that the first few pieces wouldn’t square up perfectly. I am by no means a professional but I have fabricated motorcycle cages and have made my own parts. I had the help of my friend who is a welder for Tesla so there was plenty of experience on hand when putting the bumper together.
