What did you do with your 4runner today?

Replaced the cheap Amazon LED kit with quality bulbs from VLEDs. One of the cheap ones had started to flicker and I never really liked them anyway. They were bright but the color temp was such that it still seemed dark even when they were on. The VLEDs bulbs are solid and the 5K temp recommended by J.A. (thanks for yet more great advice & info) and other posters works great. New bulb is on the left:

If you haven't replaced your interior bulbs with LEDs, I would highly recommend spending the $ to get quality bulbs and going with something in the 5K range. Here is a list of what I ordered in case it's helpful:

2 (dome + cargo area) - WHITE HIGH OUTPUT 24 LED 360° 30MM 3022 3175, SKU 3022_24_W_5K

6 (2 x map lights, 4 x doors) - WHITE HIGH POWER 360° 14 LED 194, SKU 194_14_W_5K_LL << Note - these for the map lights may be too bright for some people.

2 (visor mirrors) - VANITY SUN VISOR MIRROR 6 LED LIGHT BULB, SKU VANITY_6_W_5K

1 (glove box) - 74 WEDGE BASE 6 LED DASH LIGHT BULB, SKU 74_6_W_5K

VLEDs has a 20% off sale at the moment; discount is automatically applied in the cart.

I prefer 4000K myself

I did all my interior bulbs (4000K) from superbrightleds - even the glove box! (yes I need to tint my front windows lol)

Also picked up a flasher (on clearance!) while I was at it to complete my all-exterior-LED conversion. It was the final missing piece to run the LED signals.

Installed Slyfox SAIP bypass. Works great and now I don't have to worry about that stupid plastic air pump mucking things up in the future.

Also wrestled with the passenger door lock actuator for far too long... because of a broken cable... pretty sure I should have done more research prior to messing with it. Oh well. Had to order an actuator replacement cheapy off amazon. We'll see if it works.

Been noticing a somewhat serious loss in MPG lately, so I pulled all my calipers off to see how free the pistons were. They seem to be releasing, but who knows with these things.

I'm wondering if maybe the slight change in rake from installing the rear bumper/swingout could do it? Any guesses?

I would say your decrease in MPG is cause of the extra weight you added. When I added my rear bumper setup I seen the same MPG loss, now at 70mph avg 17-18mpg.

Question? Your Dobinson 677V is it stiff enough to handle all your weight of drawer & rear bumper with swing out?

Yeah, or maybe rear aero with the tire on the back hatch.

I've considered that as well, I just assumed since several people run tires like that it wouldn't be so significant. It's tucked very closely to the gate. I actually didn't consider just driving without it to see if it makes a difference though...

What about the removal of the factory spare? Maybe having that empty pocket is an aero drag as well?

I expected a loss for sure, and I might just be overreacting but it seems unusually bad. Mine was worse than that to begin with haha.

Yep! Since I already had the bed I was worried about that, so weight was a big concern of mine when designing the bumper with the shop. After removing the factory spare I probably only gained net ~120 lbs. Still have over an inch of rake even loading my roof rack and fuel.

03->06 Projector

Installed 06 projectors headlights today. I've had DDM HIDs in my reflectors for quite some time now and figured it's time to stop blinding oncoming traffic. Fortunately, I don't drive much at night. I was going to go back to halogens (Osram 80W Super Brights) but decided to go with the projectors. I dont have DRLs so it was pretty straight forward.

I bought some OEM 06+ headlights off ebay used....decent price for good condition ones. One came with the turn signal and clearance light sockets. However, I wanted to use my 03 signal sockets so I had to shave off a little from one tab and it went right in. I use the clerance socket to close up one of the headlights. The other headlight I used a silicone sheet I had and ziptie to cover the opening while I try to find a cheap OEM socket to cover the hole.

I already had DDM HIDs so I moved those (9006) down to the fog and bought some new DDM HID with H11 bulbs.

The only issue I had was with the pass. side fitment as I was in a minor fender bender a while back and the quarter panel got bent a little.

I'll be aiming them and adjust the squirrel finders tonight.

Really nice job bud. Is your old emblem still of use? I lost mine recently but not skilled enough to do the Satoshi on an 03 haha

Appreciate the kind words! I still have it, I haven't chucked the center piece I cut out yet.

Swapped out some of the interior lights for LED bulbs, much nicer. Now to get a few more for the courtesy lights.

Posted this over on the suspension sticky, but might as well add it in here and get a few opinions.

Been researching suspension lift options for my new to me 2005 Limited V8 4WD, going cross-eyed poring over the forums and looking at all the options. Aiming to get about 2.5" lift out front and enough out back to either level or have a slight positive rake. No plans to add bumpers or other built on weight although I will be carrying gear around on a frequent basis. Was originally intending on putting a Fox 2.0 setup on this vehicle but decided to go with a more budget friendly option since this isn't the cleanest example to start out with.

Right now my intended combo is-

Bilstein 5100 struts & OME 884 coils out front
Bilstein 5100 shocks & OME 895E coils in the rear

Will be using a Metal Tech kit and OEM isolators to rid myself of the air suspension in the rear. Would like to avoid putting aftermarket UCA's on it but if it comes down to it I will have to go for them. Anyone see any issues with pairing up the combo's above? Of course OME recommends using their shocks/struts with their coils but seems like more people pair them with the Bilsteins.
