I got my front shocks swapped out today. Props to the Shankly spring compressor tool from Amazon worked great and easy to use. The bushings have been replaced on the Total Chaos UCA’s and after calling around to have someone press out the uniballs...looks like I’ll be owning a press tomorrow HA!

Well got it all done! It wasn’t too bad of a job. The total chaos rebuilds went pretty well. Wasn’t planning on buying a press but I’m sure I will find other uses for it in the future.

Not today but this week I did a bunch of preventative maintenance. I like to ride the forest service roads in the mountains of western NC and there are times when I'm miles from pavement with no cell signal and almost no other vehicles. Since I just tripped 300K I figured I should do everything I can to avoid a breakdown in this situation. Also, I had one issue to repair, which was a slight leak at the PS pump. So here's what I did over the course of 3-4 days.
Replaced water pump, thermostat with housing, all idler pulleys, tensioner assy, drive belt, upper and lower radiator hoses, power steering pump, flushed power steering fluid, replaced front crankshaft seal, changed front and rear diff and transfer case oil with full synthetic, cleaned throttle chamber, rotated tires, and changed the oil and filter. I'm probably forgetting something but that's the main stuff I did. In the next month or so I'm gonna change the tranny fluid and possibly add an external cooler.

I get it, you want to keep the interior nice, but for who. I would not like to see or feel a seat cover on my seats at all. If you arent enjoying the nice leather seats, you are only keeping them nice for the next owner who wont. Just enjoy the truck and when they wear out recover or replace them. If its strictly resale value, I can see that too.
I had a friend who would put a towel down on the factory floor mats to keep them clean. Im like what? Thats what the floor mats are for. You can buy new ones when they wear out. We aren’t friends anymore. She was a Whack job.
[MENTION=78997]Drcoffee[/MENTION]....I actually feel this seat cover improved the feel of my seats. Although the condition of my leather is nice it is also very slippery. The new cover adds a slight amount of padding and adds some grip. The heated seats still work well if i crank it up a little more. And yes, I am not only using these covers for me but for the next guy. I tend to trade or sell vehicles quite often and usually get top dollar because I am a little OCD and my vehicles always stand tall compared to most others. I do very little off roading and what I do is nothing severe enough to do any damage. I admit I own a very capable off road vehicle but am a poseur. I just appreciate the 4RUNNER for what it is, an overbuilt and extremely reliable and capable vehicle. But, to each his own. But I can tell you I have NEVER put towels over floor mats…you are right, that woman is crazy.

Fixed the $3 relay in the wiper stalk to fix the intermittent wiper function that I burned up with the stuck wipers on the ice this winter.
Got my driver side step and left rear tire hit and popped in a parking lot, screwing up my alignment. Just got 5 new tires for a 5 tire rotation, so now I'll have one with 10k fewer miles.

Figured out my rear door speaker issue with my Pioneer hu by messing with the settings for 45 minutes. Tried replacing the burnt out bulb in the information center but I guessed on the exact bulb type and got the wrong ones from Napa auto parts. The nearest Toyota dealer is about an hour and fifteen minutes away so next time I’m in Vegas I’ll get the right ones. Started on my lower link skids which are based off of the design I found on the website of member [MENTION=8167]mikestang[/MENTION], Mike's Garage. Cool stuff on there. I’ll get the final fit and finish this week and should have them welded on next weekend.

Finally got around to installing a pair of new OEM rear springs, along with the rear OME 10mm spacer and ToyTec front 1/4" topout spacer to fix the lean issue on the drivers side. I gain a full 1" of lift in the rear and another .5" in the front. The truck sitting perfectly level now.

Knocked out some maintenance items:
- Rotated the tires & checked PSI
- Checked torque on Spidertrax bolts (no issues) & the steering shaft slide yoke bolts (they were right on at 26 ft/lbs)
- Lubricated the caliper slide pins, steering shaft u-joint, and all hinges (doors, hood, hatch)
Added this voltmeter/USB port to my dash. Had to enlarge the switch opening and learned a valuable lesson about being careful with the Dremel by creating a big scratch at the lower left corner. :doh:

New OEM Headlights
I finally broke down and replaced my crummy Arcani (I think is the brand name) headlights from Amazon with new OEM’s. Bought the 4Runner and headlights were yellowed and looked a little rough. Couldn’t stomach the price of new OEM headlights.
Within 3 months the Amazon headlights already started to yellow and delaminate. Within about 5 months the passenger side turn signal bulb housing was melted and while trying to remove/replace, the bulb broke off in the headlight housing!
Removing the other headlight last night the other bulb was also stuck in the melted housing. Anyways I just threw them away last night, GOOD RIDDANCE! LOL.

Replaced hose on PCV valve as it was pretty hard on the ends and I noticed my PS valve cover is covered in light oil/road grime, think the hard end of tube along with crappy pinch type clamp may have given up after 17 years!
Replaced with a length of 3/8 hose and stainless worm screw clamps.
PCV was clean and operative.

Paid a local muffler shop $40 to cut off the resonator and reroute the exhaust to the side. As others have noted, this makes no difference in sound.
Mine sticks up there too. I considered trying to hammer it down, but then I forget about it for 5 months.
Weekend upgrades
I had a busy weekend, but was able to replace the radiator, new t-stat,t-stat housing, upper/lower hoses, install a trans cooler, switched to sport step/running boards, and upgraded my tires to BGF KO2s (265/70/17)

I finally fixed my maddening roof rattle the other day using cutting-edge materials and techniques. My observation that I could stop the rattle by gently pulling down on the headliner right at the passenger side front corner of the sunroof opening, combined with @gRunner3's 2010 post, led to folding over a piece of cardboard and wedging it above the headliner as shown. Rattle gone!
