What did you do with your 4runner today?

Made an Alligator hide Shifter.

As a builder, I always have to customize my things.
Used up some alligator scraps from a satchel I made. Was board of dull shifter and love using sport mode in my 2016 trail, so made some shape changes with alligator hide along with super luscious, garment cow hide. Not bad for first attempt.
The tail fin spikes are just low enough to be out of the way of grip. Kind of odd looking, scraps were part of tail and an elbow.
Thinking about making a few to sell to individuals. I am not going to make a real run of them to sell in bulk, just a few cool customs. Was thinking shark hide might be cool to feel.
What do you all think? Is this something you all would be interested in?

Awesome, really appreciate the review. I might wait until late winter/early spring to pull the trigger since we don't have any road trips planned to justify the purchase just yet haha.

Btw, if you get a chance, could you take more photos from different angles of the screen? I noticed this model sticks out a little bit more since it can oscillate, and I'm curious how that looks when sitting in the passenger seat. Cheers!

I found out after receiving them that that the instructions are only for 5th Gens. Required a lot of custom work to get them installed. But I do like them.

My still-in-progress transmission drain and fill + cooler install started with a legit "WTF?" moment, one that made me very happy that I try to be prepared for the unexpected. I liked how [MENTION=113703]46runner[/MENTION] (thread) removed the overfill plug so as to replace the crush washer and put the plug back in hand-tight in preparation for the level check later so that's where I began.

If I understand the point of the overflow plug, you should get little or no drainage when you remove it with cool fluid, but I had the bucket ready just in case. Took out the overflow plug - the correct one, with the hex nut head - and got this for my trouble:

I had backed the truck up about 3 feet before starting but it was running less than 30 seconds and OBD Fusion checked the pan temp at 77° F so it seems unusual to get almost a quart out of the overflow unless it was overfilled. The transmission was last serviced by Cherokee Toyota, supposedly with a full drain and fill 5.5 years and 104K miles ago. While I've had no issues, I shudder to think (pun 100% intended) that it's been running over a half-quart overfilled for that long. But since all my previous attempts to alter the past have failed, I'm going to move forward. ;-)

I then removed the drain plug and ended up with a total of exactly 2.5 quarts from the pan. That's not crazy compared with what some others have said (though the standard seems to be ~2 qts.) so I'm not worried about it.

More later on how the rest of this goes. No more surprises I hope.

RCI slider install

I bolted on my RCI sliders today. Very easy. One person install with two jack stands and a floor jack.

Discovered a couple of things. First, a Hayden 698 transmission oil cooler makes a real difference. This is before and after, fully warmed up and driving 75-80 on the freeway at the same ambient temperature of 80° F.

I also learned how important it is to keep your ATF fill tube clear of the exhaust when you start the truck for the level check. :doh: Fortunately, a paint scraper did a nice job or carving off the goo once it cooled off.

The 4Runner isn't quite as big in the back as the Hilux double cab pickup truck we get over here, so today my Dad and I made a racking system in the back for my tools. There is space behind the rear seats too - a lot easier to get to with the step ladders out of the way. Very pleased with it.

Hope I don't jinx it but I had some requests for updates about the Amazon headlights. Only 3 months in so far but they're still moisture free after plenty of rain, look amazing, and I keep getting compliments on them. I'll try to update maybe at 6 months and then a year

Removed my rusty panhard bar and scrapped/sanded/primed/painted. Was going to replace the OEM bushings with Super Pro but I'll wait till next time on that.

I finally got around to replacing my passenger cv axel but now I’ve developed a tiny diff leak on that side. I’ve driven a couple hundred miles and there’s barely any oil on the diff cover so I’m thinking I’ll wait a little longer to replace the seal. I’m on the hunt fro some cheap stock rims so I can install my off-road tires. I want to have two sets of wheels and tires so I can switch between them to save some gas.
