If you wanna go a step further, removing the interior panel and peeking inside the tailgate for any old trim seal that might've broken off might prove worthwhile. I had that happen with mine and while they didn't block the drain holes located on both side and center, it was glad to have it cleaned out and know it drains better. Plus you can check out the situation of everything else inside

I lifted the panel a few inches to look inside. It was moist and the foam liner near the bottom was wet. Didn’t take the whole panel off yet since it was dumping rain and I don’t have a garage to work on. It’s on my list of to do tho, thanks for the tips

Just an FYI, the outer weather stripping on all the door windows including the rear hatch window are not designed to keep all water out, a little bit of water will get in past the weather stripping, it's purpose is to keep debris and bugs out, cut down on wind noise and to sorta wipe the glass as it goes up and down.

There's no way to seal a piece of glass that rolls up and down and keep all the water from getting pass the weather stripping, that's why all of the doors and rear hatch all have drain holes on the bottom edge, it's perfectly normal to have a bit of moisture after a rain or washing a vehicle when looking inside a door/hatch, what isn't normal is hearing water sloshing around when opening a door or hatch after giving it time to drain, if you hear a lot of water when opening and the weather stripping seems to be intact then the drain holes are clogged with debris and needs to be cleaned so the water can drain out properly.

added RCI transmission & lower a arms skids. Installed rear recovery point from a member here and touched up rock sliders with hammer black.

just ordered front recovery points from SRQ and Eimkeith lower link skids. I am super tempted to finish out my RCI skid set as well with it being black friday and all.

Hm, the work never stops I guess. Wheel one day, work on it for a month.

In the last 90 days or so I've added.

• Dobinson Adjustable Rear lower control arms
• RCI full skids including tank
• total chaos spindle gussets
• koyo wheel bearings
• rebuilt LCAs with whiteline bushings and Sankei LBJ
• new passenger front caliper
• new front pads
• new passenger napa CV due to torn boot
• Lil B's front Bumper

I ditched the victory4x4 blitz bumper for this, not much else left to do before re-gearing for the 35s and lockers at this point.

I started the job on re wiring my arb single compressor. It crapped out on me over the weekend. I checked the fuse and it seems okay, I am hoping I just had a bad ground or something. Probably finish it up tomorrow or Thursday. [waiting on butt connectors]

Today I installed RAD Rubber Designs splash guards. I had replaced the factory ones years ago using the DIY method I found on the forum and those did pretty well but I recently noticed one of them was missing from the passenger side front. I also found out what happens if you go wheeling before you figure out that it's missing. :doh:

The RAD Rubber guards are pricey compared to some you can find on eBay and Amazon, but the reviews are consistently stellar and Eddie immediately replied when I emailed a question, which shows how interested a company is in their customers. I also plan to keep this truck forever, so all things considered, I decided to spend the extra $ for the RAD Rubber. The materials (guards & fasteners) and directions are both terrific and IMO they're worth the cost.

While I had the front wheels off, I also cleaned and greased the caliper slide pins and checked the torque on my SpiderTrax spacers.

Caliper slide pins? The fronts shouldn't have those - just the pad retention pins.

I just ordered the transfer case skid from them around Labor Day and I’m still waiting for the correct one to arrive. Check your shipment carefully to be sure you get the 4th Gen set. They sent me a 5th Gen set. The parts are not marked as to vehicle fitment nor are the boxes. The dimensions are not on their website, and the photos on the website are the exact same for the 4th & 5th Gen t-case skids even though the parts are different sizes. So there is no way to know you got the wrong parts until you try to install them.

Also, the pieces come separately, so I didn’t realize right away that both pieces were wrong, not just the cross piece.

I will add that the driver’s side of the RCI crosspiece is poorly designed. I don’t know what others’ experience has been, but I would give getting the driver’s side crosspiece installed a solid 8.5+ on the PITA scale b/c it’s so tight to the fuel tank skid. Bring your patience and a hammer.

A wise move IMO. My replacement skid arrived today (replacement crosspiece came lat week). I thought RCI might be willing to offer some kind of goodwill gesture given the time and trouble caused by their error, for example the aggravation and time wasted in discovering the incorrect parts through trying to install them and having to box up the 5th Gen parts and send them back. Nope. In fairness, the parts are solid material-wise but overall the customer experience was disappointing.

Great question, and yes. Learned all this the hard way. :doh:

The bolt hole on the end of the crosspiece is centered on the 5th Gen, as shown here. On the 4th Gen part, it's offset to the rear.

For the skid plate itself, I could do a side-by-side since the 4th Gen part arrived today. These are standing on their sides so the measurements are front edge to rear edge. The 4th Gen plate is several inches longer and comes with a hardware bag containing spacers that are used the ensure it clears the exhaust. (Note: I should have had both arrows pointing to the right since the front edge of both pieces is on the left. I regret any confusion.)

Installation tips:

1. Get out your floor jack if your have one and use it to hold the parts up while you bolt them on. No jack? Block them up with wood or have a helper. These suckers are heavy.

2. The passenger side frame bolt replaces the lower factory bolt for the exhaust hanger, so that hole is relatively clean. But the driver's side bolt hole is unused from the factory so it's likely got rust, dirt, and whatever else in it. If I was doing this over again, I would use compressed air to blow out the driver's side bolt hole then either spray some Fluid Film in there or put some anti-seize on the bolt - something to get the bolt in there a little easier. I ended up cranking it a quarter-turn or so at a time (tough to get a wrench in there) using so much force I was worried about breaking off the bolt.

Yeah, those just hold the pads in place. A slide pin is what you'll see on a single piston caliper (like the rears) where it's actually sealed and greased/plays a part in the braking.
