What did you do with your 4runner today?

3/2 Revtek lift removed, Bilstein 6112/5100 installed. Excellent work by Stanton Automotive in Seattle.

Techstream showed 2 TPMS sensors were weak. Local shop wanted $830 to replace and program all 5 TPMS sensors. Discount tire did 3 (I paid for two) for $130.

I should get my new ABS booster and accumulator tomorrow, so that's this weekend's task.

Installed a KOYO all aluminum radiator. Replaced my radiator about 30k miles ago because of a cracked plastic end tank, and it recently started leaking again from the neck cracking slightly. I didn't want to risk it cracking again, so bit the bullet on the $500 KOYORAD which is all aluminum vs the ~$100ish oem replacement with an aluminum body and plastic endtanks/neck.

Fit is perfect like oem. 1 difference, you no longer route the transmission cooler lines through the radiator, they go directly from the transmission to the cooler. Super easy, and no more risk of a pink milkshake.

Got a link? been looking into CSF radiators but haven't made up my mind yet.

Of course the ABS/TRAC lights came on after the TPMS install - and my ** daughter didn't tell me about it. I think my ex broke an ABS sensor while drunk one day. Every time someone has to do something to the wheels, I have to do a zero-point calibration. Thankfully I have Techstream and can reset it in about 5 minutes.

Also emissions test (OBD-II and fuel cap check only) and registration ($62.72).

Made some great progress on my skid plate project today. Super stoked on how these are turning out. Even for rusty repurposed steel.

I found that thread. Was more concerned that if it will leak without those covers, I should probably order the kit sooner rather than later lol

That's probably the best course of action. You don't want water in your headliner. If you have your original bolts, you might put some rubber washers or o-rings on them and reinstall them (without the rack) in the meantime.

How do you like the Ridge Grapplers? Curious about them in heavy rain and snow.

Haven't tried them in snow yet. Some have reported funky rain handling but they seem to do alright. Looking at the tread pattern you can see most of the gaps in the center tread blocks don't have an exit and run into another tread block instead of exiting the side of the tire. That may be why some people find them sketchy in the rain. I'm used to driving mud tires on road though and those types of tires have no issues at all in the rain. Probably step up to a 35" Yokohama G003 or 35" KM3 for my next set.

Opened up one of the front rotors I picked up last month just to be sure it was the larger SE diameter. Glad I did. Cobb County Toyota is going to swap it out even though today is technically the end of the 30-day return period and I can't get down there for a day or two. Lesson learned - check parts before you leave the store or dealer, or immediately when they arrive if shipped. Yeah, pretty obvious and I'm usually on that kind of stuff but it doesn't even seem like a month since I picked them up. Checked the rest of the rotors and they're good.

After replacing all my brake lines a couple months ago due to rust, I decided to see if I could prevent rust/corrosion on other brake components, like the caliper bleeder valve/screw. I ended up buying vacuum caps that fit very snug over the entire valve + any threads showing and also filled it up with Fluid Film. I've had these snap on me before (likely others have had that happen), so experimenting with this.

I replaced the rear hatch button today. The old button was barely usable in the winter and like tar in the summer.

Last week I was replacing head gaskets and this week I was challenged by this supposed simple repair. I broke some clips and stripped the screws on the plastic button itself. The head gasket repair must have been a fluke...

That's one hell of a gift!

Killed my alternator yesterday lol. Hopefully it didn't kill my battery too. Picked up a Denso reman alternator today and getting the battery checked. Oops! 217k miles on the original though, about time something broke.

Heard a whine from the engine bay when I got in to start it, thought it may have been the air injection pump but the noise increased with engine RPM. Kept driving then the battery light came on, then all of the other dash lights came on. Drove another block, pulled over, shut it off, popped the hood to check things out and everything looked ok but did get a whiff of something being burnt. Got back in to start it and got clicks then eventually got nothing. Called AAA, guy came out to try and jump it and got nothing. Put the jump pack on, again nothing. Put the truck AND the jump pack on then it started lol. Driver was like ya 99 times out of 100 its the alternator
