What did you do with your 4runner today?

Another frame rust removal session. Man, I am amazed every time I do this at the amount of rust I get from inside the frame. Today I found a soft spot on the bottom of the frame rail in the identical spot on both sides of the frame, up front just past where those two round tubes tie to the frame and front crossmember. I poked a hole in the soft spot and the amount of rust and big chunks of metal that I was able to pull out of there with a coat hanger was phenomenal! I gave it a good spray inside the frame with fluid film when I was done.

Chased a burning smell

Tried to figure out where I can get this diode from for my 21 limited . My rear lights aren't working hoping this fixes that issue

I'm actually researching this now. Thinking of taking the body off of the frame ...

I just dropped my trans pan in anticipation of doing three or more drain and fills. I wanted to swap filters, but I also wanted to take a look and see if there was anything lurking in it before filling it back up. I am so very happy with what I saw.

My fluid was a little dark, but not smelly and no metallic debris in it. Magnets had a minimum of buildup on them. Everything looked so good I said forget the other flushes. I swapped out the filter, reinstalled the pan, filled it up with about 5 quarts of Amsoil ATF and took her for a drive. It now shifts gears quite a bit smoother, not that it was bad in the slightest at all (it was overfilled by maybe a half quart). Before, I'd notice the shifts, but now they are buttery smooth.

It feel like I've really accomplished something when I save so much money doing stuff like this!

Added a 40a Renogy charge controller, and Wanderer Solar controller and Bluetooth dongle, plus a 100W Renogy solar panel to the truck. The solar is so efficient, it runs my fridge and accessories without messing with the battery charge level! Very impressed.

I’ve been trying to solve a mystery.
Missfire at cyl 6. Put a new coil, checked spark plug. Good. Checked for coolant leak (just in case) - good.

The car ran fine after a few days I put the new coil and today when I started in the morning was rough and checked engine light came back.

I’m thinking on inspecting the fuel injectors but also read about similar issues that were fixed with new spark cables. I think I will try that.

The 4R is new to me (a month ago) with no maintenance history (spark plugs are new)

About the missfire it only happens for a minute or two in the morning and it goes away by itself.

Oh well. We’ll see.

You shouldn't have any "spark plug" cable/wires, the coils connect directly to the spark plugs, there are however wires that connect to the coils that could have a bad connected especially if you broke any of the connectors when replacing a coil/s.

Do you have the V6 or the V8?

If it's the V6 it could be possible you have the beginning of failing head gasket, misfires at startup is one of the symptoms, once any coolant that has leaked into a cylinder has been evaporated the misfire goes away.

Might want to get the test kit for testing the coolant for exhaust gases.

Ty for this, no wonder I didn’t find any wires online lol

I have the v6; there’s was no coolant when I checked (let the car overnight and removed the spark plug) but I have read about the head gasket issue. I will check that.

I’m also thinking, what if the new coil is bad? I’m thinking I could swap it with another coil and test if I get the missfire in another cylinder.

Finished plugging the OEM-made holes in my 4Runner frame, there are about 60 of them for some reason up and down the length of the frame both inboard and outboard. I have noticed from watching some youtube videos on 5th gens that the 5th gen appears to have plastic plugs in those frame holes, so I ordered plug kit 04002-07104, which contains 28 plastic plugs, both round and rectangular. It takes two of these kits plus about 12 more plugs which I sourced from NAPA. I left the holes on the bottom of the frame open in most places.
Trying to slow down the frame rotting from winter salt, I sprayed Fluid Film in the frame at all of the holes I plugged as a further precaution.

Took it for it's first (With my ownership) MOT test (Same as your state inspections)

It passed with an advisory for antiroll bar links so that will be my next job. I ordered new 'D' bushes too.

Changed out that little amber light in the front headlight that was burned out. Based on all the posts about it being impossible, I was surprised to find that I did it with no tools in about 2.5 minutes. Small success, but I'll take it...

Smaller hands help with that job, it can be a pain, especially on driver side as I recall, glad your's went smoothly.

I did this WITH my T4R, during the summer adventuring in NM. Of course the picture does not show the real situation going on.
