What did you pay for GPS update?

I don't plan on having it updated but I did get an email from the dealership I go to for service and they offered it for $169.

I want my maps in the truck to be up to date in case I need it... plus it's annoying to me if it's not. I have a 2013 LE, but it seems mine is on the edge of when the dvd ended and sd card began...

I've asked about updated dvd's (not from dealer) and ppl just say the dvd's wont work for the 2013 "not sure why"... Pisses me off! i want an update for mine.

Anyone with a 2013 have this issue?
 
Personally, I can't wait for all auto manufacturers to abandon
proprietary Nav and apps on their cars. Just give me a big screen
that links to my iPhone or Android device.

In the mean time, I bought a CRUX-AVITY01 to mirror my phone
And enable other menu functions from the Toyota system while the car is in motion. I highly recommend it.

Toyota & Lexus DVD Navigation Map Discs

I can tell you they are copies of the OEM version, but they work just fine.

Don't know if the SD card versions are available or if they can be copied.
 
Ver 17.1 U99 discs are out for the 2010-2012 Toyota 4Runner and some early build 2013's that still utilize the DVD method of update.
 
I’ve never really had a good experience with the built in navigation. And because of the iPhone apps, never messed with it. Seems kinda like an outdated concept to have to pay for gps updates.

To the original poster. When my 4 Runner was stolen the thieves took the micro chip out of the unit. I guess they thought the vehicle could be tracked with it.

When I got the car back and replaced the chip it was 249.00. I am guessing that a new chip is all it takes to update the system.

The only caution for 100% reliance on phone apps is when you are in areas of crappy cell service. Not an issue if you drive only in mainly populated areas but I have had apps looking for connections enough times that I would never go pure app.
