What did you pay for GPS update?

During my recent trip to NC there were no signs indicating crap cell service ahead. Sure you can download maps ahead of time but I think you understood my point.

Oh if it's not worth your time to download the maps then by all means spend the money on a dedicated unit. I just plan ahead. Works internationally too. On my recent trip to the French Alps I just downloaded eastern France and Switzerland before I left. Similarly, I keep all of Colorado and parts of Whoming and Utah on my phone. And duplicate that with topos and trail overlays I use in Backcountry navigator....it doesn't take much time and doesn't take much data.
