What did you pay for your 05 Sport

With a $3500 rebate (on V8) you should be able to get it for $2500 below invoice. That's a $1000 deal for the Stealer, I would not pay more then that. I would make a starting offer of $3000 below invoice. DO NOT negotiate with the MSRP, only work with the invoice. If you negotiate off the invoice you don't have worry about any options the vehicle may have.

Thanks for the input. That is what i was planning on doing but i just didnt want the dealer to add on all the options they had installed on the truck. But i guess some of the options you (ME) have to pay for since they are already on it.

You have figure in that an 05 will be a year old as soon as you take delivery. You should get $1000 just for that, now figure in the rebate. You looking at $2500 to $3500 off the V6 and $3500 to $4500 off the V8.

Koz,

This is true, I've thought about that one. My logic is it's like a 15k mile credit. When the car is ready to be traded or sold, hopefully it will be worth more because the mileage is lower. I'm trading in an 05 with 17k miles on it. Of course they don't want to even give me KBB book for it.

If I bought the 05 and you bought the 06, drove them identically, traded at the same time, which one would be worth more? The 06 because it's newer, or the 05 because it's a year older with less mileage? If you say the 06, would it be worth the difference in price right now? since there's only a $500 dollar rebate on the 06.

I really hate buying cars, I'm happy to know I'll be happy with this car for a long time and not have to worry about it anymore.

Thanks for your input!

If you work off the invoice they will show you it to you BEFORE signing the final paperwork (when picking up the vehicle). If they have the vehicle, they will have the invoice.

Koz

Ok, And i guess if the negotiated price is to high at that point you can still work out a better deal or are you stuck with the price.

Yeah and i bet they would love to show me how they are going to take that 3500 off the MSRP! SO i guess that is how people get vehicles BELOW invoice.

Last year when I was negotiating I got several offers of $1000 below invoice on a 04 leftover in the mail. With the rebates offered today you can score a GREAT deal on a 05 leftover. Last year they updated the V8 so I had to have more POWER. This year there are no real improvements only cosmetics.

Any recent purchases in August / October that you want to share?

Thanks :awais:

I wish I could report a sale. I can't find an 05 Sport in my region with the options I'm looking for. There's one dealer with a possibility, it's a V8, without sunroof. But it has everything else I'm looking for. Can l live without the sunroof? I keep the shade closed 80% of the time on my current car anyway.

Locally, a Sport V6 with sunroof is about $6000 off MSRP.

A Sport V8 without roof is about $7000 off.

The 06s are around 2700-3000 off.

All 4WD.

I know, I look at Carmax.com in MD and drool over their inventory! We don't have that kind of stock with all the dealers combined in the Denver area.

Edmunds and other sites give invoice prices for the 4 runners. When negotiating the price with the dealer, is it common for the dealers to add hold back, floor plan assistance, advertising and other fee's to your deal after the invoice price? The reason I ask is because several dealers here in Houston are doing this. When I have bought other new vehicles in the past, I got the invoice price from edmunds, offered a few hundred above or below invoice and just basically added delivery plus ttl= drive out. Under that scenerio the dealer was still getting his money from the manufacture in terms of hold back and other rebates usually giving the dealer a profit from $1000 to $3000 depending on the cost of the vehicle. The way the dealers here are adding these fees after invoice it seems they are double dipping (or at least trying to). Can you or others on the forum explain how this works with toyota?

Thanks in advance

The dealer should not be chargning you hold back and i would walk if they tried to charge me that. The dealer is paid the holdback by the manufacturer when they sell the car AND they are trying to charge you the hold back to make double the money. The floor plan assistance i would not pay. Now the advertising fees you may have to pay. Now how much they jack them up above and beyond realistic fees i dont know. If you are talking of the TDA (Toyota Dealer Associations Group Advertising) I believe you have to pay this. From my research i believe the advertising fees are around 1-2% MSRP It isnt the individuals dealers fees but the redional dealer TV advertising associations fees. Honda is one of the few that include their advertising fees in the invoice price of the car.

Ron,

After more reading today i found that you should try to have the dealer remove the floor plan assistance fee. Here is a description of that this fee is.

"Dealer Floorplan Interest is the interest that dealers pay for loans to buy the cars on their lot. Usually the factory pays this as part of the holdback, itemized as a separate invoice item.On an Eclipse invoice I have, the factory gave the dealer $185 in floor plan assistance, and the dealer itemized it to the buyer as a fee, double collecting for $370!" (Jeff Ostroff www.carbuyingtips.com)

The factory will generally give the dealer one to two months of interest assistance. After the car has been there a while the dealer will have to start paying interest on that car.

I paid about $26,500 after taxes and fees.

Here is what my money got me:

2005 Sport - v8

Titanium Metallic
JBL 10 speaker w/rear audio
Floor mats
First oil change free
$75 Gas Card

I really enjoy my new 4runner, my old one was a 1990 SR5 and I truly appreciate the advancements that have been made in the last 15 years.

I have been screwed in the past from car dealers; this is what I have learned.

-Shop around and do some research, find out what the invoice price is with options

-Start to call dealers on the next to last day of the month for price quotes

05 4Runner V8 4WD

I got my V8 4WD Sport last week for $27K after $4K rebate in DFW Metroplex. It has the sunroof, double deck cargo, mats, and a few other minor options. The MSRP was $35.7K. The dealer took in my Sienna at $300 over Edmunds trade-in. Just be firm with what you want to offer and prepare to walk. Good Luck

Is that out the door or plus TTL?

It helps a lot when you can tell your salesperson exactly what the dealership paid for the vehicle

How do you find out what the dealership paid???
I'm in the market to buy or trade in my 04 sr-5 for an 06 Sport 4wd.

I bought 3 autos from the same Toyota dealer over the last 2 years, and everytime they showed me some bogus dealer's invoice because I had mentioned that I'd like to deal on invoice. I laughed everytime and told them I'd like to deal on real invoice. Their invoice is approximately $1700 over Edmunds or KBB.

I looked at the 06 today at the car show, and there were not much differences between the 05 and 06. I could not tell the difference until I got up close, and my wife could not tell at all. You could save big on the 05 because of the $4K rebate + below invoice pricing.
