dude are you able to take the truck out yet? we are going to Anza-B on Sat. 2WD should be ok for a lot of the park.
I just ordered the midland portable CB $71 on Amazon and a magnet antenna extension for the roof. It can run as either a ) plugged in or b) on batteries.
I decided against a full cb in order to save space and reduce clutter. I already have the radio, a phone mount and soon a code reader.

Probably don't want that long of cable. I've found that extra cable coiled up somewhere, wrapped under your seat, ect. actually hinders reception. Try to get as straight of a shot as possible, like 12 ft if you can.

Several people have said that 18 feet is the perfect distance.

I just measured in a basically a straight line from the rear hatch to the dash and got 13. So probably need a 15. Guess I'll make a trip to Frys

About the length: This is a testy subject with many engineering types. They have argued with us on many occasions regarding this matter. They say that if your system is set-up properly that the length of the coax is irrelevant. We agree! However, mobile installations have so many variables that a perfect set-up is the exception, not the rule. One guy has a pick-up and another has a fiberglass motorhome. One wants the antenna on the bumper, another on the hood and a third on the roof. Few people want to drill holes in their vehicle so quality grounds are always a consideration. Because of the imperfect world, we almost always recommend 18' (5.5m) when our products are used. We do so with good reason too! At 18' the voltage curve has dropped back to the zero voltage point where the cable meets the antenna which reduces the reactance within the cable itself (a null cable if you would). It has been our experience that if the antenna location makes it somewhat out of sync with its surroundings, cable lengths that are not multiples of our 18' suggestion adds to the problem.

18 feet to my mount... routed properly.
I suppose I could have half assed it and gotten away with much less, but you shouldn't half ass it.

Got my Outdoor logic drifter mount in yesterday, ran the fire stick 18' coax cable and it was absolutely perfect from the drivers side tail light to the ashtray. CB going in this week. I would not recommend going shorter in the order cause you can always cut it down.
The loop on the end of the firestick was pretty sweet, less to put together. Check it out:

No extra hook up needed.
For the Antenna I also picked up the firestick 3' antenna, meets right up about the same height as the runner when mounted near the tail light. Plus it is easy to tune.....
