What Do I Use To Remove Spots On Hood ??

I admit It's been awhile since I have had to wash the runner.
The other day I noticed about 3 dozen brownish crusty kinda spots on my hood, about the size of M&Ms, and only on the hood.
At first I thought it was rust coming through the paint. I don't think it is now. Thank god!
Anyway with the 95+ degree temps we were having and parking in the sun at times, I think whatever it is just got baked on.
So I washed the runner and went over the hood about a half dozen times. After I dried it the spots were quite a bit smaller and not crusty anymore. But you definitely could still see them because of the black paint.
I have some good old fashion rubbing compound, but I really don't think I want to use that on my paint.
I usually wax it with Meguiars NXT which does a pretty good job. It didn't even faze these spots.
Any ideas of what the hell I can use that is safe for clear coated finishes and will get these spots off?

I clayed & (3) stepped my brother's Civic & I still have these spots, even some on the roof.

Wow, that guy does some amazing work.
I thought about taking it to a detailer, but I was hoping there was some type of cleaner or wax that I could get and do it myself.

Try rubbing compound. :

Those are etched in waterspots. I've noticed my hood is prone to them as well (more than any other part of the car or other cars I've seen). Try using a mild abrasive polish first before stepping up to a rubbing compound.

I usually go over the whole car with something like Zaino Z-PC to remove these imperfections once a year.

I was thinking of trying to clay bar my hood first, but don't know anything about it.
Will have to read up on it.
I'd rather not try anything abrasive for fear of swirl marks.
Is the Zaino Z-PC an abrasive compound?

Not much to worry about with a clay bar. Make sure you thoroughly remove as much dirt as you can by washing the car. The clay bar is pretty soft, a bit thicker than cookie dough. Spray the area you're working on with the included detailer spray, preferably 2'x2' at a time and light rub it down with the clay bar. Apply more detailer spray as needed, keeping the working area well lubricated. You will hear what sounds like a sanding effect with sand paper--that's the clay bar working its magic and remove surface contaminants. If you come across a spot that's still rough or still has contaminants, go over a few more times, but don't apply more pressure.

Clay bars is soft enough to lift the surface contaminants into the clay without the contaminants causing fine scratches. Just make sure you fold over the clay every so often. Usually when you see it's gotten a lot dirtier. If the clay bar is ever dropped on the ground, throw it out. You don't want the sand, dirt, etc. from the ground being rubbed across the finish.
