What do you use the small bin above the cupholders for???

You know what I'm talking about. The bin that folds down a whole 1" or 1.5". It's right above the cup holders.

I'm replacing it w/ a LCD screen. What do you put in there???

I use it to hold a printout of how to reset the maintence light that I printed out from this site. I used to hold the garage door opener there but the homelink took care of that.

That's a wierd place to put an LCD screen. I would think it'd be blocked by the shifter.

38 cal. compact special Smith & Wesson, just kidding Note book and small dust brush sits there. LCD monitor sounds good but i got to see where im going when i drive. Maybe rear view cam would be a good choice, but yet again if some one sneeks up behind my rig and get run over that's their problem...

BTW ... that spot is a bit inconvenient for an LCD. You won't be able to see the screen when you use your cup holders!

My dilema for placement for the LCD is that I don't want any cops pulling me over for having it in the front seat. Otherwise, the visor LCD would be perfect. I'm still trying to find a mount that can retract and swivel (retract like a power antenna). If I find this, it solves all my problems.


If you know of such a bracket, lemme know...

how big is your lcd panel that you're trying to mount? I've been scouring my computer looking for the pics I _know_ I took, but I can't seem to find them. I used a dremel and mod'd my "cubby-hole" such that an lcd panel fit on top and I was still able to almost close it. if I had relocated the main junction and the ecu for the air conditioner that's right behind there, it would have actually latched. I no longer am running this as I've pulled the computer, tnc, lcd, and control panel from my truck in favor of a redesign. my complaint was when it was open, I (effectively) lost the use of my cup holders, unless I was drinking a coke from a 20oz bottle or something...

It's a 7". Outside dimensions are slightly smaller than the smallest dimensions of the cubby hole. I haven't explored behind the bin, but it looks like there is something behind the right part of it, as it sticks out more than the left. LCD is only an 1" thick. I'm really curious about how you mounted it, and the angle of your mount. Where are you thinking of moving it to?

hmm...my setup wouldn't work for ya very well. my display was significantly smaller...here's a link to what I was using. it's roughly 7" x 3" in size. I'll go stick it back in and power it up to take a picture for ya. I removed it as the display was terrible. It's a serial-ly controlled lcd graphics display, I could write to it reliably at any reasonable speed, so updates were slow. So, I
yoinked it out in favor of nothing. I'm going to the drawing board on the design of that system. Here's a "local mirror" of the original webpage of the guy who started writing the code. I've since helped him extend the code a bit and added some new features. But, alas, it's time for a code rewrite to restructure some stuff.

Incidently, he's got a 4runner also...it's a 3rd gen, he mounted the same display there in the overhead console...but that'd defeat the visibility purpose for your situation.
