What does everyone use for GPS?

Hi,
I just got a magellan explorist and I like it so far. This is my first one but the color screen is nice and it has a large 3.5 inch screen. It takes 4 AA batteries which was nice on my hunting trip because I could just replace the batteries as needed since I didn't have a power source to recharge any.

I want to be albe to track all areas as I do a lot of back country driving, but also would be nice to have city maps available. Kind of a combination of detailed professional topo model and consumer around town model.

I use the Garmin GPSMap 60CSx. I love it, it has exapandable memory by way of Micro SD cards. I have my navigation roads/maps/destinations on one card and my topo maps on the other. Note: you can't put both on one card.

GPS City (gpscity.com) had the best prices at the time I bought it (about 5 months ago).

I'm not sure why you think you can't put both street and Topo maps on one Micro SD card?? I have the Map 76CSx (same as 60CSx) with a 1GB micro SD card and I have the Garmin Nav 8 and Topo maps all loaded on the same card. I just switch between them from the map set up page.

Not sure why I think that. I guess I read it somewhere before I bought it and never tried to see if I acutally could put topo on the same card. I haven't updated maps in a while but next time I do I'll see if I can...

My 2 cents, GARMIN, PERIOD! Had them in boats, motorcycles, friend have had them in aircraft. They are easy to use, have great features, the best cartography (a big thing in GPS units) and amazing customer service. At the present time I have a GARMIN 176 that I may be selling soon, run a Garmin EDGE 305 on my bicycle, and will be replacing my 176 with the current model GARMIN 478. It will overlay current NEXRAD radar and lightening strikes on the map in color, ad talks to me.

I use it mountain biking, dirt bike riding, backpacking, 4 wheeling and for navigating on the street. Almost every function available on a GPS is found on the 60CSX.

I wanted a portable GPs for recreation use and street navigation. If I were to get one for the car only I would get something with voice commands, although I have had no problems with the audible and visual commands from the 60CSX.

A Nuvi would be great if it breadcrumbed.

Interesting, I'll have to put both my maps on the one card now, if I could just find my software and PC cord!!

Anyways, the breadcrumb feature is awesome. Got me back and forth from campsite to civilization on unmarked roads many times. Very nice unit...

I have the lowrance i500c. it is really good on the roads but once you wonder off the roads it gets confused. if youre doing a lot of off roading probably not the best choice. but it does show unassumed roads, unmaintained roads, and fie/logging roads. on the road it is great, even tells you which lane to be in so that you can make turns and catch off ramps.
