lol!
It's not unheard of in my area for a vehicle to slip off the road in the winter, fall into a ditch or even worse, slide off the side of a mountain. And if you're injured and/or can't walk out, it could be days or more before anyone spotted you - if ever. In fact just about every time they go looking for a known missing person/vehicle off Hwy 18, 138, or 330, they seem to find an old vehicle that they were looking for at some point in the past and gave up on.
And that's the main roads! Out on the trails you'd be "f'd". Hardly anyone goes out on some of my local trails for weeks at a time in the winter months. And this is CA! If you're in Montana or BC, and something happens and you're not carrying any survival gear, chances are you'll die if you're in the deep woods. I love the adventure, but not being prepared is dumb! Obviously you guys in the suburbs and cities aren't taking big chances, but it's stll a good idea to have a few items in your truck like water, flashlight, a little food, and a blanket. I'm getting my list together now so i'll post up what I carry soon, and this thread is a good excuse to go to Walmart and re-supply. BTW, I always carry my S&W 329PD .44 Mag whenever I think there's a chance I may spend the night.
