as said before, flush sleeping/fun surface.
But I also use it to haul my scuba gear. Dive bag, wet bag and tanks. without having to reach in too far. And then a handy spot to sit on and change.

I've got one installed and have been looking for someone not to far away to do a swap with. I'll send you a PM.
I'm glad I have it to mount my ARB fridge I have ordered to until I get some sort of drawer system built up. It will definitely be better than not having it.
For most of us "hardcore mod the piss outta your 4runner" members, it can be more of a nuisance and extra cost than being utilized. However, I would bet based on the 90%+ stock 4Runners I see around town, our group here is definitely the minority. For your typical family-mobile/grocery getter, I'm sure most consumers enjoy it.. Pretty simple really.

Based on a couple of you guys offering yours up for sale, these can be retro-fitted? When I bought my Pro, the cargo tray wasn't an option in my region on the Pros for some reason, and I didn't really care because I thought I'd get a flat sleeping platform without and having the tray would mess that up. Now I see that I don't have a flat platform, and was wondering if I needed the tray. I did a search and here I am. I also want that little compartment at the front, directly behind the second row seats. Has anyone successfully retro-fitted this tray, and if so, do they have a post about it? Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

I have one up for sale off of my 2016 TRP and it will fit fine. I have all the parts down to the carpet...
I'm a relatively new owner (March purchase of 2017 LE) and I really wanted the sliding rear cargo deck, but couldn't find any in the US. Perhaps these don't come on the LEs? The dealer I bought from indicated that they haven't seen a sliding rear cargo deck in a long time. How common are these in the 2017s?

I have been looking for one in a '17 / '18 LE and they are NOT around. They seem to be a regional item from what I can see. There seems to be a number of them in the South to Southwest region of the US, but none in the Northeast and East side of the country. I do use the tray a bit here and there, but the big item I like is the in floor storage area just forward of that for a number of items I keep in there. Not really sure where I would keep that stuff w/o the tray. It is not a deal breaker with the sale, but just something holding me back for now.

How I made the Cargo tray useful
Resurrecting this thread to show a mod I came up with. I was always frustrated with the cargo tray because everytime I went to pull it out with stuff on it, things would fall down into the gap and into the rails which I would have to clear out before shutting the tray again. I love using the tray as an impromptu table or seat, but still wanted a solid "permanent" floor. so, I built a floating floor the stands over top of the tray and is fastened down so it won't bounce on the trail. Super handy so far and mildly inexpensive. Short photo album in the link:
