What if we were to find out that the 4Runner will be going away from the body on frame design for the 6th gen (I have no idea but seems like everyone else is). Would you buy another 5th gen before they went to the 6th gen or would you wait and maybe get a 6th gen even though it would be a unibody design?

Completely depends on what else is out there at the time. I love the Toyota, but am not that fiercely brand loyal - I like the best tool for the job. In my opinion, there are few other trucks I'd sell the 4runner for...

JKU Rubicon w/Diesel - Who knows? Jeep seems to be the most responsive to what their customers want lately...
Who knows, maybe something else will come up that scratches the itch?
Another thought...think hard about the type of driving/wheeling you do. If you were able to get 35 mpg, but had to give up 15% of the off-road capability of the 4runner, maybe that isn't such a terrible tradeoff if it gets you traveling places and experiencing the outdoors more?

I'm not sure I understood question. I already have 5th gen, I don't think I'm going to sell it or buy another 5th gen anytime soon : ) But I would be disappointed if 4Runner became another Ford Explorer.
I'm talking about 4 or 5 yrs down the road if your 5th gen had a lot of miles and you were planning on getting another vehicle (assuming you still wanted a 4runner) would you get another 5th gen or wait for the 6th gen.

4 or 5 years of driving doesnt really constitute alot of age or mileage in my books.
my dads had his avalon since 95. its 17 years old and drives just fine, why replace it?
hopefully i'll drive mine down into the ground, then rebuild it, then drive it into the ground again.
there are SOME people who prefer to change there car every 4-6 years. personally i plan to keep mine till the frame rots :zoom:
if the 4runner does become unibody down the road i will look else where to suit my BOF needs. maybe the tacoma or tundra (can't see trucks every going unibody) or rebuild and LC.

Seeing the demise in the Ford Explorer, I would keep my 5th gen for utility and buy a fun sports car for my daily driver.

Yeah, I know, I have 326,000 on my Dodge diesel, but I do like to keep one vehicle with lower mileage and since we drive between 25,000 and 30,000 miles per year it adds up pretty fast.

Yeah, I'd still like to have a body on frame vehicle, but the thing with us is we really need the third row, so that eliminates 4 door trucks. I also can't see myself spending $40,000 on a large SUV thats only going to get 13-14 miles per gallon either. I personally would like to stay with Toyota or even Nissan because I have had good luck with them, I'm not saying the others are bad or that I wouldn't buy something else, it's just my preference.

To be fair, that's a pretty gimpy driver and tires, too.
Unibody is fine for what most people think of as "off road" (i.e., that video). Body on frame will flex better, which makes it better for serious off-roading or heavy heavy towing, but a good suspension and tire setup with a real 4wd system will get a unibody crossover about anywhere you need it to go.
I'm much more concerned about all these "off-road" SUVs going to rear IFS with no ground clearance than I am about them going to unibody construction.

Unlikely to happen even on 6th-Gen (in 2016) - Toyota has the Highlander for that. The 4R is a niche model with a fiercely loyal fan base that Toyota would be hesitant to alienate. The next gen trucks are already on the drawing board, and it's pretty clear BOF is the preferred chassis for most who buy 4Rs.

If I stll love my 4Runner as much as I do now in 2015, I would definitely buy a 2015 TE with all the goodies before the BOF went away.

Toyota already has three crossovers (Rav4, Highlander, Venza) they won't have a forth. I see the Sequoia being cut and the 4Runner growing just a little to be Toyota's large SUV

Also the Runner isn't the only truck built on the 120 frame.
