What is Coolant capacity 1989 4Runner 22RE?

Hello and Thanks in advance for your help!!!

I need to flush my cooling system and want to ensure I am adding enough antifreeze to make a 60/40 mix.

Given some H20 will remain in the system after flushing I need to know the coolant capacity of a 1989 4runner 22RE Manual Tranny No A/C.

I have looked everywhere and everything I have looked at states the capacity for a 4x4 truck and not 4runner. Given that the 4runner has an extra heater for the rear seats, it must have a greater capacity.

So far I have seen a range in capacities:

8.9 qts for truck w/man tranny (chilton)
17.4 qts for Land Cruiser (chilton)
9.0 qts (Haynes)

What is Coolant capacity 1989 4runner 22RE?

8.9 qts. for everything except the 4wd w/auto. 22r, 22re
9.6 qts. for 4wd/auto. 22re, 22rte

Out of the factory service manual.

Also did you replace the rear heater core? If not, it still has coolant in it.

Im still a little confused.

All the info I have seen including the volume you stated seem to be for a Pickup truck and not specificly for the 4runner.

Being that a Landcruiser holds 17.4 qts. I was assuming it would have a rear heater core aswell. So I was thinking a 4runner would hold a bit more than p/u.

Does anyone else have any insight on this?
Weather is getting cold so I only want to do this once.

Well the factory service manual definitely states pickup and 4runner in the title page.

FSM scroll your your applicable model.

Changing your coolant is not a mystery. Fill it, start it, fill it while its running, stop filling when you can't fill it anymore.

Put the cap back on, drive it, let it cool off, top off coolant.

Are you really planning to measure 8.9 qts. exactly?

Most 4Runners did not include the rear heater (plus I thought, likely incorrectly, that it was electric).
