What is in your off road tool bag?

I was just wondering what some of you more experienced people would consider "required equipment". I am trying to keep my tool bag reasonable....... I keep adding to it, then I started pulling things out. Knowing Murphy very well, the tool I will need will be at my house when the time comes. I want to cover my bases but at the same time not have 150 lbs of tools in the back of my truck. I look forward to your input (that's what she said).

The smartest thing I saw someone do was that they kept every spare nut, bolt, fastener, etc. that was left over from every mod they made. They carried them in a container in the rear of his FJ.

Next best items were bailing wire, duct tape and rachet straps.

And I am being completely serious. On the trail someone in the group usually had the necessary tool but few had spare nuts, bolts, hardware, etc.

That is a good idea. I'm also interested in what some of the more experienced overlanders suggest. I'm opting for MaxTrax over a winch or hi-lift. Had this debate with a friend and I just feel the MaxTrax offers the most versatility for the best cost efficiency.

Agreed, we are thinking of pair of maxtrax as we have a hi-lift. Argument for us on why a winch isn't necessary is in some places where we are going solo there won't be anything to winch to.

Bury a log, large rock, spare tire, etc

Hilift (with chains to winch with), exhaust jack, Pull Pall, then Max Trax. In that order.

I believe the cv axle has 36mm nut. You need a socket to change the axle. I also carry a tire plug kit. Plus sockets and wrenches from 8mm to 22mm. Spare fuses. And a small can of WD-40. I am just mentioning the unique items I have needed or someone else needed.

35, actually, but a 36 works, too. 22mm crows foot for outer tie rod ends.

I keep a home depot bucket with tow chains, ratchet straps, tire plug kit and mini air compressor, metric socket set and some random screwdrivers. More of a highway kit than offroad kit.

You are most correct. I remember I got the 36 and it was sloppy fit but it worked. Btw. Anyone need a 36mm. I have 2. Only need 1.
