What is something you wish you HADN'T done to your 4Runner?

Lifting it. Since then, I have had issues with front end clunks and bad handling in the front end. Numerous alignments still no definitive answer as to what is going on.

It's plenty capable in stock form with just tires, and every trail I have gone could have been done just fine without the lift. Oh well. I still love the truck.

Yeah... so for those 5-10 times per year... I guess the 4runner that has a load in it is going to look like it has a load in it until it is unloaded... for 5-10 times a year.

The 4runner does fine for 90% of the trails and roads around here. If it's actually "off-road," I'm taking the old bronco instead.

The thought of hauling an elk out on a highlander is kind of funny. I'm afraid it wouldn't make it to camp.

I guess that's the biggest problem with these rigs. They do everything "pretty well," but they aren't great at much.

I want to know what kind of roof rack you have that will hold 400lbs while offroading - and how the hell you're going to get it up there.

I wish I hadn't sold my sweet 3rd Gen to a good friend without putting a clause in the bill of sale stating he wouldn't paint the wheels black and make that classic looking truck look like every other 3rd Gen Bruh-truck.

BMC for sure. It hurt and there is definitely no turning back, yeah you can make it look stock but its the only thing I've done that just didn't feel right. I was also in a rush to do it because i was going on a long trip and I didn't want it rubbing the whole time when in reality a set of UCAs and a really good alignment probably would have been fine.

The elk. Typically my elk range from 4-600lb dressed at the scales. I've never hauled one on a roof rack. I don't think the 4runner roof would do very well with the weight.

This is one area Toyota did a piss poor job of - the roof rack. It's actually exactly the same base rack assembly as the highlander - and almost all other Toyota models. At least the early Trail Editions came with a better one. Wish they wouldn't have opted to get rid of it.

Yeah I’m not putting them on the roof.

Quarter them before tossing them on a mule. Skin them at camp. May have to fold the seats down before putting it in back. But hey that’s why they fold right?

buying cheap HID kids and should have did it right from the start.

The amount I paid replacing cheap bulbs, ballasts, and kits was more then the top end Xenon Depot HID kit.

Also trying to go offroad without taking the running boards off. Ended up damaging them so that I couldn't resell them when I got rocksliders so they just sit in my garage bent and collecting dust. Probably will schedule for them to get picked up with the recycling.

edit: also in hindsight...if I knew I was going to do this many mods, I would have went with heavier springs.
Instead of the ToyTec Superflex coil springs which gives 10% increase in load capacity/spring rate and a great ride quality, I would have went with the Heavy duty Superflex HD coils for additional weight. It recommended 150-200 lbs of constant load for approximately 2-2.5" of lift and I would be ok with buying an aluminum bumper now. Before, I wasn't so sure I would want to but it sounds more appealing as of late.

I wish I hadn't backed into the side of my garage. I was too busy trying to not back into my garbage bin and hit a much bigger target instead. The silver lining: after that I stopped worrying about "the first dent." So, I've got that going for me.

Worse decision on a MOD - FOX Suspension. I have had to replace every suspension part on my truck since installing and now onto my steering rack. Whether it has to do totally with FOX shitty design, probably not. But definitely attributed.

because of what he said, no way Toyota will ever warranty anything on my truck which, i mean i knew but that doesn't mean it doesn't suck, and also yeah, doing a trade in some time might have been nice not that I've REALLY been looking into it.

at the end of the day its just something that I didn't really need to chop but patience and haste got the best of me.

They make it a pain in the dck to get in and out. With the step being in that one little spot. If you're in a tight parking spot they are useless.

Kinda regret buying it to be honest.

Its a fine car, and I have a bunch of mods in the garage waiting to go on it, but the jury is out on if it was a smart move. Once we get it on the trails, that will be the deciding factor

So far, the mpg sucks, the power is pathetic, the suspension is terrible, the lack of features is laughable, and the radio/nav is one of the worst I've had the displeasure of using. Oh, and the 3rd row is a joke.

I'm just glad I didn't shell out the money for a new one.

If you keep it you'll love how reliable it really is even if its lacking in the features department, and if you sell it you'll love how much it retains its value. either way looks like a good investment in my book.

I'm very happy with my 4Runner and the mods that I've done to it. If I had to do it over I might skip the Raptor mod, a lot of hate here for the NFab steps, but I like the appearance.

If I could find a Nautical Blue without the third row I would have done it in a heartbeat

Granted I was on stock suspension with a 1" spacer up front, rear end droop was so bad on the way to Moab I had to reaim my headlights on the drive out to stop getting high-beamed. I had a week's worth of clothes for 2 people, 3 empty fuel cans, some tools and 150lbs of dogs in the back. Now that I have an RTT mounted, I'm reallllly glad I didnt level things out. Doing some trail work loaded down would suck if I'm constantly dragging the rear end over crap.

I get what you are saying...

But if you properly aimed your headlights for the other 99.9% of the driving that you do without that type of load, you would have had the same issue when loaded up.

I don’t think any of us are going to change the others mind on a preference like this. It’s why so many lift companies make money selling leveling kits as well as lift kits that keep the raked stance. Each their own.

So 3rd row models are loooooonger? ??

I don't know. I tried several models and the one with the 3rd row seats had more legroom. Every 1/4 inch counts for me. I can't even drive most cars because legroom sucks. Getting in and out is the hardest because I hit the steering wheel with my knees. I have to slide my legs sideways to keep them from getting lodged between the steering wheel and the floor.
Everything is made to please a midget. No one gives a sh*t about tall people.

The front differential is always engage, it’s physical gears that are permanently meshed. None of the trim levels even have an option for lockable front diff.

The front driveshaft does not rotate in 4x2 mode, only in 4x4. It's a good idea to exercise it once per month as recommended in the manual.
