What is something you wish you HADN'T done to your 4Runner?

I just installed these in my reverse lights and was pretty disappointed with the brightness.

If you are loaded up with gear in the back and your rig is leveled unloaded, then you will likely end up with your front end higher than the rear. Two things come to mind..headlamps blinding other drivers and that fact you've effectively exhausted much of the rear suspension even before you hit dirt.

A little squat is no big big deal and customary. Starting out level though does put you behind the 8 ball right out of the gate however.

Counter point:

If your headlights are aimed properly for the 99.9% of driving you do without any weight in the rear: you will have the exact same problem when loaded. Unless your headlights are under-aimed (which you could also do with a level stance) additional weight on the rear is going to cause the headlights to come up. The weight to make the 4Runner sit level is going to have the same effect as the weight to make a level 4Runner squat in the rear.

Again - we are talking about a personal preference here. In other news, toilet paper should one be placed with the loose end over the top and dishwashers should only be loaded handle up utensils down. Anything else is wrong.

The XenonDepot Phillips 4500k lowbeam replacement is awesome and really lets me see the road at night just like the halogen refectors did on my Tacoma.

My regret is I did not get the foglight color matched replacements at the same time from XenonDepot during their Black Friday sale.

Never use my foglights now because the color is so much different from my lowbeams (yellow vs white lights).

My wifes Corolla IM has projector lights also so will be getting hers replaced as well on the next Black Friday sale.

Other than that no regrets. Not going crazy on the mods as I am considering trading in every couple years because of the mileage I put on (20k a yr).

Rear bumper cup holders. Killed my MPG. Much worse departure angle. Loud.....and once the chicks see it they run for the hills.

Exactly my argument against the “drilling isn’t so bad crowd”. Drilling is easy. It’s the next 10 years of limited options that’s tough.

Not buying a Trail Premium and adding a spacer lift!

I wish I would have done it right and gone full suspension on a Trail Premium from the get go...

Having said that, my needs/desires changed after having the truck and being way more motivated to explore than I originally anticipated.

After reading this whole thread a few times, I have to admit I have a couple of regrets.

First one is not buying 2 of them when I bought my '11 trail model. Coming from a 1st Gen, then to a 3rd Gen, and now to the 5th Gen, man is this a great rig. Wish I had one just like it sitting in the shop waiting to be modded. Not a real fan of all the subtle changes Toyota has made to the 5th Gen line over the last 5-6 years. Starting with the front end look change, the space where the 2nd battery should go, the info panel changes, steering wheel changes. Don't get me wrong I will buy another 4runner, but the first mods I do to it will be way more severe than what I have done to the current one and all in the pursuit of getting back to 2011. Sad but true. Changing shit just to change shit isn't always good. Works both ways I guess.

Totally agree. I really miss my 3rd Gen. That IMO was a real off-roader. I love my 2011 with very minimal mods (leveling kit/bigger tires/1:25 spacers) but I'm also not a fan of the latest styling of the T4R. Keep it simple!!!

I definitely don't like how there's 2 different 2nd row options. Honestly I preferred the non 3rd row option in my 2 fourth gens. I know this may not have worked as well in the third row model but having everything so tall and on a slant is just annoying to me in the third row

Third row seat and Sirius radio (bababooey!) were my wife's only requirements. As much as I love the 4Runner, without that requirement I would have had a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited.

Yes, you're right. I think they should have moved the rear seat back a bit in the two row-models.

Perhaps they should have just left two 3-row rear seat in the 2-row models?

2-row: the second row is fixed. It does not slide, rear leg room is what it is, as is the cargo area.

3-row: the second row is on sliders. The sliders allow access to the third row seat. The added bonus is the middle row can be moved forward or backward. When the middle row is all the way forward (3rd is folded) you get more cargo space but like no 2nd row leg room. When the middle row is slid all the way to back, you get more legroom... but less cargo room.
When the third row is up, you can adjust the middle row for more less legroom in the two rows.

There is also a big difference in how the middle row folds. The 2 row seats fold down to be lower than the 3 row seats.

That's an excellent comparison. You can clearly see that the 2-row model has about 4"-5" of extra vertical space... which is quite a lot.

Here is a pic of the floor height difference from the back between 2-row (TRDP) and a 3-row (my SR5) models.

Yes hard to find the Pro without the slide out platform which also takes away vertical height for gear and equipment. You really loose lots with that 3rd row.

Good comparison shot for sure, I freaking HATE having the third row since I don't have kids, was used to my two 4th gens that had lots more cargo room like your Pro. Thanks for the side by side

Wish I hadn't used the cheap O'Reilly filter wrench for my first oil change. Thing bent super easily and ended up going in the garbage after getting a decent wrench. Autozone version works great.

I got the Motivx filter cap wrench and it works great. Autozone wrench might be a better deal though.

seat removal

I regret cross-threading one of the four seat bottom bolts when putting them back in after my first camping trip with them out. Of course it's not the bolt that stripped, but the hole in the truck that needs to now be re-tapped.

Super easy to remove, but be careful putting them back in.
