What is this??? And whats its job???

Anyone able to direct as to what this is?? A part of the vaccuum system as far as i can see but whats this part called and what does it do?

Any help identifying it is appreciated as its decided to make a constant "pop pop pop..." noise as the truck sits at idle.

(Referring to the center of the photo, the 1inch by 2inch plastic block piece that the 2 vaccuum lined are attached to)

That is a vacuum solenoid. It controls the vacuum going into the charcoal canister.

Awesome thanks, any idea why it would be making a rhythmic popping noise at idle? Seems new to me but maybe ive only just started noticing it.

Mine sounds like a buzzing bee

I asked the same questions once, but mine sounds like a buzzing bee. I was told by my mechanic that this is dispersing pressure from the fuel system as the gas heats or cools. Not sure if I fully buy that but that's what I was told

purge solenoid! I get this weird droaning noise from mine for like 30 mins after I shut the truck off

That happens with the early 3 gen I know for sure on the 96 and 97 the buzzing is normal after it is shut down. The mechanic was correct it is just dispersing the pressure all is fine. No cel so your good.

What im getting from all this is that it happens when thd fuel is cold to begin with because of the pressure/density difference. IE it is working correctly and buying a new one woulnt solve the noise as they all make a noise during lower temps?

These commonly fail...see any thread with P0406 (I think). Mine too did all of the above, and then stopped both the valve was bad and I had a cracked canister. Bought a new valve on Ebay and resealed the cracked canister. It was cracking at the old seal seam.

You are ahead of the curve...now you know the problem once the CEL comes on.
