What is this little thingy?

In my new (old - 1996 SR5) 4Runner there is a strange little compartment up on the roof next to the sunroof controls. It is a small door that folds down and looks like it might have been made to hold business cards or something like that. Anybody have any idea what it is?

It seems strange that it would really be made to hold business cards. Is it for those little packs of tissues or something?

If anyone has any ideas, let me know!

It is actually much too small for a pair of glasses. It is only about 5 inches across or so. Thanks for the input, thought!

My '90 had the same thing. WTF? I used to fold up my insurance card and keep that in there with the registration. How that little card holder survived the generation change is beyond me

It is for your license and insurance card. Maybe a gas credit card or anything that size that needs to be kept within reach in case of an accident, traffic stop or a quick stop like a drive through or an atm.

I love how the 2000-and-up upper cubby thing is spring loaded, and it came with those little adapter things to help push the garage door button without having to open it up. Ingenious if you ask me :bigok:

I think you mean 99+ as I have a 99 and I have that too...

Only problem is that mine is actually missing...

I have the adapters though!

Anyone wanna give me one? haah I have the whole thing aside from the actual thing that you push..

Sorry I had to use this thread because I don't have enough posts to start a new one. Anyway, I was wondering what this doodad is? It was on what I'm guessing was my original stock exhaust on my 97 Limited. What I'm guessing was my original stock exhaust on my 97 limited. I install a new Walker quiet flow SS today from the catalytic back and I noticed the new exhaust doesn't have it. There was nothing connected to it. It was just hanging out in the breeze!

I thought it was for holding cassettes ha ha. i was watching mighty car mods and they suggested it was for toll passes, but also worked with business cards.
