What is your *fav* 4G feature?

I like how the glove compartment, center armrests (front and rear), sunglass holder, etc. are all dampened so that they slowly open or close. For example, if you open the glove compartment and let go, it doesn't just drop down. It slowly "glides" down.

Minor, yes. But you'd be surprised how many expensive vehicles have undampened glove compartment doors or other compartments that feel like they're going to fall off when opened.

:iagree: with Mark86 and Northof49, while the rest of the stuff on our 4Runners can be found on other vehicles, other than X-REAS, I'm not aware of any other car having the crank and hold feature (maybe the Tundra). I'm use to just jumping in and flicking the key and then wait for it to crank that a few times it looked like I stalled in my other cars. Having Bluetooth navi is sweet too.

I didn't test it on my 4Runner, but when I've read that the 4Runner can't be double started with the crank and hold, I tested it out during a test drive. When the engine is running and the key is turned to start again, everything just dims like as if the engine is being cranked, but there's no grinding.

I hope Toyota will add the Smart Access keyless system to the 4Runner by the next generation, then of course, that would be my newest favorite feature.

I like the way you don't have to hold the key to start it. Once you turn the key, it will keep cranking until the engine starts.

This is indeed a nice feature. Problem is that I've got so used to it that every other car I drive I usually fail to start first time because I'm no longer used to holding the key

I love the ignition key trick, and I also have problems when I drive a different car. I'll get in and just flick the key, and watch the car stutter, and then have my friends look at me like I don't know how to start a car.

I also like how all the compartments open slowy, that just gives it a luxury feel all over.

Something else I've always liked is that little red dot that follows the speedo and tach on the Limited cluster. I just think that's neato!!!

I love the sulfur smell the exhaust gives off & the loud thunk the drivetrain makes every time you stop the truck. :bash:

Seriously, there are so many things I love abotu the 4G. I had a 1997 T4R before this one & there is like 20 times the storage space in the 06 than was in my 97. I love the roomy center consloe, the spacious glovebox, and even the worthless little compartment below the AC controls!

Favorite 4Runner gizmo

I have to say there are several faves...and most are unique to the 4Runner.
Tops on my list...those two mirrors in the back compartment. Those rock. I noticed them when I was test driving and nearly scared the crap out of the salesman when I whipped the truck into the parking space just inches from the truck behind me. They make getting in and out of parking spots a breeze.
Other faves: the rear window that rolls down, the 4 wheel drive system, the shifter right under my fingertips and the shift design (in and out of overdrive is almost as much fun as stirring the box), the fuel mileage...and last but not least...the engine compartment layout. I want to shake the hand of the genius who designed the oil filter stalk. I added the Fumoto drain valve and changing the oil is as easy as opening a cold beer.
Things I wish were different: a white face gauge and a GLASS gauge cover. The speedo is hard to read on sunny days and the gauge plastic is way too easily scratched. Heck, if they just angled the cover in the other direction, it wouldn't get so dirty to begin with.
But that's my only complaint.
Overall, I love this truck.

Ya I can definetly agree on the brakes....they are basically amazing. 1 deer and a mid 90's Dodge Caravan owe their life to my 4R's brakes haha.....and my amazing driving talent, of course lol

But in all seriousness, I had a truck full of crap and people doing like 80mph and had to brake for all it was worth while serving the deer with not much room for error. The 4R locked up the ABS and just sat right down....no drama, full control the whole time, but holy hell did it stop hard. No one in the vehicle could believe the stopping power.....it's better than most sports cars I've been in.

The 4Runner with the 13.3" front rotors and 4-piston calipers stops from 70-0 in 170 feet. This is sport sedan territory. The brakes would have to be my favorite feature on teh 4Runner. The Brake Assist, however, is my least favorite. See the other thread for explanation.

I agree with everyone else, one more small feature I like is the huge cupholders. Ive never been in a vehicle that can hold a 32oz gatorade bottle. If i had to pick my fav. I would say the auto crank feature.

I have no idea if this pertains to strictly to 4th gens or not, but I love that in both the front and rear cupholder I can fit a 32oz Nalgene bottle.... a feat most cars can not do stock... needless to say all my friends and coworkers are jealous.

Some of my favorite overall features :

• How solid the ride feels even 12K miles later.
• Knowing there's plenty of V8 power left under my foot even when doing 70+mph uphill.
• Rolldown rear window is nice in hot sticky weather - gets a nice breeze going thru the 4R and no exhaust sulphur smell on mine (yet ?)
