What Keeps The Rear Coils From Coming Out?

I just installed rear OME 906 coils in my 1999 4Runner. I noticed that the OME's are actually shorter than the stock coils, but I still get about an inch of lift over stock.

I am looking to install some longer Bilstein 5100's in the rear. My concern is looking at the design of the rear suspension, the only thing keeping the rear coils from coming loose is the rear shocks. If I go with a longer rear shock, do I run the risk of the coils popping out when the rear susupension is fully extended?

Yes this can happen. It's never happened to me, but I've heard of other members having to chase their coils down the hill. I'm not sure if anyone has come up with anything to help keep them in place. I suppose you could just strap the bottom coil to the axle with a ratchet strap or something.

Most coil pop out are from coils that have a lot of flex, say 8 wraps or larger. I have 7 wraps and no issue but I have lowered my rear bump stops which helps not over compress the shock and keeps the coil in. Most ome's wont flex enough to pop out. You can just tie them in with wire at the top and bottom to make sure they dont fall out of you think they may.

You can also hard mount the cone bumpstop that sits in the spring. That way when one side is fully drooped the spring would have to be lower than the bottom of the cone to fall out, and that's likely not going to happen. The spring would then re-seat itself after you make it over the obstacle.

I've never had an issue with my setup, but with longer shocks and shorter springs like the 906's you could certainly have a spring come out.

True, but I will probably be going with longer springs in the future, and my rear shocks need to be replaced (they have over 200k on them)
