what kind of jacks do you guys carry?

yeah, AAA is great!! just depends on where you are and how long you'd have to wait as to whether it'd be quicker that way or doing it yourself. i happen to love changing tires and getting greasy, so i even just changed my mom's tire for her since i was nearer than AAA at the time.

AAA is great down here in central texas where it gets HOTTT during the summer (except this august, it appears, but now that I've said that.......) especially if you're wearing a suit or dark colored clothing. But it's also piece of mind when on the road...that's why I have it...

hi-lifts are great when you need one (usually off-road), but they ARE much less stable and require much more attention to how they are placed. when I'm at home and doing stuff like this, I pull the floor jack and jack stands out...

no offense taken at all. i changed my first tire when i was a little kid, and it was on my dad's old 2002tii ... and i've always changed my own tires and rotated them myself, and of course taken them off to work on the suspension ... so, i didn't want you to think i didn't know how to change my own tire, or the proper use of a jack!

Also for the record...rumor has it 4route is also fairly deadly with a pickle fork...so don' peeezzzce 'er offf!

Sorry for starting this confusing thread...my intentions were to find out if anyone carries an aftermarket jack in place of the stock jack due to the experience I had with the flimsyness...thanks for all the input

they sell bottlejacks at pepboys/autozone.

also online as well. you can get some beefy 10/20ton bottle jacks for under 100 bucks.


edit:
check out harbor freight (www.harborfreight.com). They have some bottle jacks for under 60 bucks (20 ton). 12 ton for 40 bucks.

Figures. Thanks for the heads up on the 4Runner jack.

I remember first trying to use my 93 Tacoma jack. Had a flat on the freeway and didn't feel like waiting for AAA. One problem. There wasn't enough room to use the jack when the tire was flat. Just wouldn't fit.

Toyota gets so many other things right. Wonder why they get the jacks so wrong.
