It's a real eye opener and although it's over 20 years old the topics discussed are still relative. On my Moms side of the family there was a Great Grandfather named Thomas Nast that was a famous political cartoonist . He was considered the father of christmas, and was responsible for making Christmas a holiday. He was also responsible for creating the popular American icons of the Republican Elephant, the Democratic Donkey, Uncle Sam, Santa Claus, and Columbia. His artwork played an instrumental role in securing Abraham Lincoln’s second election to the presidency, in the election of Ulysses S. Grant, and in the downfall of the corrupt political machine of Boss Tweed and Tammany Hall.

Half Irish half Malaysian, great grandma was an Indian princess and had to flee to Malaysia after family was wiped out by the British when they were taking over India, one of many royal families that were massacred.
What's cool is she laid low in a convent with the nuns until they married her to some dude, my great grandfather.
All this was secret in the family until pretty recently.
The palace is still there, Brits turned it into a hotel, though I have no idea how to spell the name LoL

Neat information here. My mom got a Family Tree computer program for Christmas last year and has been mapping it out pretty far on each of my grandparents sides.

My paternal grandma was from Germany and paternal grandma from Minnesota.

My maternal grandparents were both from Missouri.

The only person famous in my family, or Wikepdia worthy traces my paternal grandpas side, back a few generations. Related to Capt. John C. Tidball, a Civil War officer, who is known for starting the tradition of Taps of being played at military funerals.
